Re: Chris Garrett ESPN/Scouts Inc: Garrett is a mechanically sound, fundamental player who grows on you the more you watch him. He is a strong pocket passer ... Has excellent height and bulk. He's very consistent in his methods and takes pride in the nuances of the position. Demonstrates poise and works through his progressions. He's a good ball handler. Has a quick release and good timing. Gets rid of the ball quickly and can be tough to get to with the rush. Makes proper checkdowns and rarely locks on to his primary target. Shows very good overall accuracy and good touch on the deep ball and timing routes. Drops the ball in over coverage and deftly changes ball speeds. ... Appears to have very good intangibles. Stays calm in the pocket, isn't rattled easily and will stand and deliver in the face of a rush. ... Garrett has a high ceiling and is one of the better quarterbacks to come out of Mississippi in some time. Scout.com: Garrett is the prototypical pocket passer. Chris has the arm strength to make all of the throws and he has very high football I.Q. ... [he makes] quick decisions with the football.
Re: Chris Garrett Matt Ryan was a QB who had many NFL scouts questioning his arm strength. The Falclowns didn't care, and they took him with the #3 pick in the NFL draft... making Ryan the #1 QB taken in that Draft, a lot higher than "super-arm" Chad Henne, who was taken in the 2nd Round of that same Draft, behind Ryan, Flacco, and Brohm. Rivals now ranks Chris Garrett the #18 pro-style QB in the nation. Scout now ranks him as the #27 overall QB in the nation (he moved up a spot since the last time I checked). ESPN ranks him as the #26 overall QB in the nation. Compare to Matt Ryan: Rivals ranked Ryan as the #25 overall QB in the nation in 2003 and Scout ranked him as the #44 overall QB in the nation in 2003.
Re: Chris Garrett :geaux: I'm excited that we have Chris Garret and that he'll be participating in Spring drills. He obviously has a lot of upside and if things work out for him, he could have a very special career at LSU. I'm looking forward to seeing him play the next few years. :LSU231:
Re: Chris Garrett Crowton is good at developing those pocket-passers: Tim Rattay (finished 10th in balloting for the Heisman Trophy in 1999), Glenn Foley (finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 1993). Glenn Foley Tim Rattay
