Put yourself in the Ath. Directors shoes: Who do you nominate for the selection committee?

Context: Yesterday Jeremy Foley, Florida's Athletic Director, said that Mike Slive has asked the AD's from the SEC schools to submit their choices/recommendations for who they feel should be on the selection committee for the upcoming final four in college football's upcoming playoffs.

There are arguments for and against a lot of professions. Some are saying "no media members." Others that may be excluded include current conference commissioners and current Athletic Directors. Mark May and Tony Barnhart went as far as to suggest Condoleezza Rice as a possible candidate.

I read where FSU's head coach, Jimbo Fisher, said it should be conducted as a poll where all of the coaches voted. Considering the number of Sports Information Director's who have handled coaches votes in the past there's a good argument against that.

Media members? For every one recommended I'm sure we could find a number of arguments against each and every one.

Setting aside those exclusions, who would you have fill this committee? (How long before people look back at the BCS and remember it fondly? ;) )

I've had a few names cross my mind. One that has emerged, which I've not seen mentioned, is Larry Kehres—the recently retired head coach of Mount Union. Tom Osbourne and Vince Dooley are two other names I'd give a lot of consideration.

This is something I've been trying to get a feel for. It was a topic on Matt Moscone's radio show the other day.

Most active coaches couldn't put aside their biases, and they're just too damn busy with their own teams. Media members, well, I just think about the Boston writer who voted Ted Williams last for the MVP the year he hit .400 because he didn't like him.

Knowledgable football people with the time to invest to make sound decisions, with unimpeachable charactor. Tom Osbourne and Vince Dooley are good, how about Bowden?

    Or...........Lou Holtz ;)

At first glance, if you hadn't noticed how bad he is on College Game Day, Holtz would seem like a good pick because he coached in several conferences. But he is soooooo biased it we would be a horrible choice. However I think Mark May would be a credible choice.

This is the part of the playoff equation that I was dreading. If nothing else, the BCS poll can give us the top 4 teams to advance. You put enough people/computers on the same page and bias and prejudice is at a minimum. Four human beings, invested in universities of their own, help us all. You can't talk about impeccable credentials with no hint of prejudice, there is no such person who exist. Even our subconscious is wired to have things our way. All things being equal, our selfish inclination, always stun and amaze in all aspects of life. The only way to minimize such character flaws, is to dilute them to the point that any one decision is rendered harmless to the sum. With only 4 votes to count, college football can prepare themselves to be stunned and amazed.

I'd put someone like Barry Alvarez, or hell I'd ask Skip Bertman, or Tom Osbourne if he is alive. Someone with integrity, which pretty much kills anyone from the state of Alabama.

LSU would stand a better shot at making it with the TUSK at the helm as opposed to Barry Alvarez.

Here is where the nightmare of the new system begins. For all of the bitching and moaning about the BCS, it was as close to fair and unbiased as you're going to get.

Every year there is going to be several teams screwed out of a shot because of politics on the committee.

The reality is that there isn't a system that is fair. The SEC is a level above every other league and yet it's thrown into a system where it is given equal footing with all others.

The SEC champion is the national champion of college football. Everything else is fluff.
