Okay, I'll take your word for it. I've seen kicking a FG on third down, but never have seen a punt on third down.
I believe you. I can certainly picture that it happened back in the day. I started following football around 1970.
The reason I can remember this, and not necessarily what I had for breakfast this morning, was it drove me nuts!
Back in the day of defensive football, a "quick kick" was not that uncommon. Interested in some history...? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quick_kick
Jeff Duncan of the Times-Picayune wrote up that LSU punted on third with less than a foot to go.. I was telling USC fans this didn't happen and they pointed out the articles.. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/09/lsu_survives_auburns_upset_bid.html Horrible job by Duncan. Wow.
First of all it's a mistake. They meant 4th and short. Second, USC fans are morons. I wouldn't waste energy trying to argue with them. Facts and logic don't factor into their decision making process. They still think the won a championship on '03.
Yup watched him punt it several times on 4th and short... pissed me off he punted any of those times... hell the one punt we were sooo freakin close Mett could've farted for the 1st down. Think the NC game might've neutered the Lesticles.
