In a perfect world we would score quickly and the defense would force 3 and outs more often than not.
This is a great point, scoring quickly and often won't give them much time to rest. Seems we will have to generate some quality depth somehow. O needs to fix this with recruiting stat
This is an interesting point. There is no denying that long, clock-eating drives by your offense rests your defense. But the problem LSU has historically had is having long drives that result in FGs (or nothing) when they stall in the red zone, along with having no ability to score quickly when needed. We did, in fact, look like a good Big 12 team last night. Will that be good enough to take on strong SEC teams? We'll have to wait and see. It is, however, exhilarating to score at will.
I wish Ed Alexander would have came back for his senior year. I don’t even think the kid made a practice squad.
I agree. But you could also say we’ve seen LSU defenses deal with old school LSU offenses constant 3 & outs where drives didn’t last long and they had to come right back out and defend. It will be interesting to see if they make any adjustments on offense to help give our defense a bit of a breather. It’s starts up front on defense. That’s what makes Bama so dominant and Clemson now too. That’s where I’m concerned for this particular Defense. Hopefully Ika comes back healthy and makes a difference. And yes, it’s pretty damn awesome to watch LSU score at will. Looking forward to enjoying this tiger team this season.
Remember the 2011 team, which was one of, if not the best Ds in school history, gave up 500 yards passing to Geno Smith when we played W. Virginia. And that team had Mo Clayborne, Eric Reid, and Mathieu. What's a much bigger concern to me is the cramping and how they just looked gassed. This is not the first time its happened, so what's going on with our S&C? Whereyat Tommy Moffitt?
Moffitt is thr strength coach but i don't know if he is the one responsible for proper hydration both in game and pregame. Need to hire a who is an expert in that. Jack Mariucci is the one who got Shelvin to lose weird and Brennan to gain. He had them eat every meal together and whenever Shelvin got a plate he had to pass it to Brennan and Brennan had to eat it. Folksy but not scientific.
