'I'd still say it's five schools -- Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, LSU and Penn State. I've visited Ohio State and Michigan. I can't just take two visits. I have basketball games this weekend, so I might go to Oregon the middle of next week, come back and then go to LSU. I might miss a basketball game or two, but it might be against weaker teams.

Pryor's coach was on 1210 with Matt Moscona and Josh Innes the other day and said that he was encouraging him to take lots of visits and that he felt that two trips (to tOSU and Michigan) weren't enough to make a good decision. He also said that Pryor said his trip to Michigan was ok. I felt like the coach was a very good guy who did not really want him to make an early choice and would be quite open to the idea that Pryor would choose something different like LSU.

Glad to hear that. Not towards you or anyone here but kinda funny how when John Curtis does it with his players it's not perceived as looking out for his player.

There may even be some truth to JT steering kids away though, I'm not positive.

Well, I understand what you're saying about JT but this is a little different, in that this isn't a coach in the state of either Ohio or Michigan (JT is in Louisiana and definitely suggests kids look out of state).

Also, I can tell you from living in the New Orleans area for many years that not until recently was there any sense on the high school level that LSU had anything in common with New Orleans except a state legislature. I think the mindset in New Orleans is normally to look around the country for a place to go to school. (That's the "Manning Mindset".) That's changing now with the newer coaching regimes at LSU and also since TOPS (not that TOPS has anything to do with football recruits, but it does affect where their classmates go). Now there is a pretty steady stream of N. O. high school kids who think first of LSU instead of UNO.

But back to JT--he's pretty egotistical and he's been running a football school for a long, long time, and it's probably part of his personality not to want to play second fiddle to someone like Saban or Miles. If he's perceived as the kingmaker and the person who gets a kid to USC or Texas, he becomes more important. If he were to feed to LSU all the time, the LSU coach would get more validation than he already has here at home.

By the way, back to the original topic of Pryor's coach, I really really thought the coach gave away a little when he talked about Pryor trip to Michigan. He sounded very underwhelmed. Not sure why or maybe I was just reading too much into his statement. But he didn't use any superlatives when quoting Pryor about the visit.:geaux:

that's prob the best take I've heard on this and I would say a very real possibility. even if it didn't start out as a conscious decision by Curtis, I could see where it would have developed over time into being what it is now.

Carnell Stewart is quoted as saying that when he committed to LSU, his teammates teased him & it was generally looked down upon.

Curtis has created an atmosphere that makes out of state schools appear more glamorous than LSU. Supposedly it is an ego thing for him.
