Now it seems there was a plea bargain involved: Ohio State players pledged not to enter NFL in exchange for Sugar Bowl elgibility | NOLA.com
And obviously these players have shown that their word is their bond. They may or may not return, but their decision will be based on their own self-interest, not some non binding pledge. Either Tressel is a fool if he believes them, or he thinks we are if we do
Its not Tressel who's getting played, its the NCAA. They were going to suspend the players for the Bowl game, but they made this deal, and as you say, its not binding. Any one of them who chooses to go back on his word walks away from this situation scot-free.
This revelation just confirms more that it is all about the $$$$$ and not the integrity of the sport. The NCAA is setting up themselves up for what will eventually be their demise. What we will all see next is all of the restrictions put on USC removed. Watch after their appeal in a couple of months.
January 22nd and yeah. Their case is really gaining strength- this is from a Texas site: >http://www.burntorangenation.com/2010/12/25/1895995/ncaa-gives-gifts-to-auburn-tosu-but-biggest-gift-is-actually-to-usc<
I was reading something similar to that either on ESPN.com or SI.com, but yes the NCAA is going to let USC off the hook, just like they have AU and tOSU. They have been setting the stage for the reversal of that previous ruling. I really can't wait to hear the explanation then. Funny, in the past they never seemed to have to make statements defending themselves. Now all of the sudden they have to with every decision.
I'm not really interested in their explanations simply because they can't be any more lame than in the cases you mentioned. I mean, after the cock & bull they've already stated in those, how can they top that?
