Nope. You started the name dropping by asking who remembers George Bevan. So going farther back is the goal. Grezaffi predates Byrd by about 15 years, Martin by 20. You need to go older.....did you see Billy Cannon?
Still my all-time favorite LSU receiver. Hebert was reminiscing about Eric Martin today. Would love to see how a Martin or Davis would have been used in last year or this year's passing games.
I did see Billy Cannon. I didn't see him live in a college game but saw him when Istruma played New Iberia High when I was just a 7 year old kid. My brother Eddie was a DE and WR for New Iberia and actually took Cannon out of the game on a tackle. Cannon did come back in and play a little later and of course ran away and over New Iberia. That New Iberia team was good and my brother, Don Chaney and Allen "the horse" Semar all were offered scholarships by LSU. I think Marshall Stockstill was also offered. Interestingly Semar who took the scholarship beat out Cannon at running back when both he and Cannon were freshman at LSU until Seymore got a head injury and had to give up football, he was that good. The rest is history as they say. With that all said I raise you a Billy Truax
Watch the Cannon run back - for the 8000 th time . The little fellow on sidelines at top of screen in dark suit following him from 15 yard line in was from my hometown.
