This suit works for me only if the Dr. withheld or lied about results for his own higher cause. Otherwise, you get what you get and you don't throw a fit.

This is a bit of anti-abortion spin from an anti-abortion site. A more objective report can be found from the Oregon newspaper.

Jury awards nearly $3 million to Portland-area couple in 'wrongful birth' lawsuit against Legacy Health | OregonLive.com

The court case is not about abortion, it's about the five counts of negligence found against the clinic that botched the testing procedure.

The medical expenses of raising and caring for a Downs syndrome child is enormous. $3 million will barely cover it and nothing will cover the stress the family will be put through over the next three decades.

To be honest, I couldn't really give a damn about the lawsuit. Its the fact that these parents are making it known to the world that they do not want their kid.

Once people are 18, they are on their own as it should be. Before that, conservatives care for kids (from conception on). Remember, it is "for the children". Unless they can't protect themselves and then Libs cut their heads off and suck 'em through a hose...

Yep, they messed up some tests. Happens all the time. Nobody died. Hit them for a few grand to punish them.

    1. If they don't want the kid, put it up for adoption and give them a few grand since the tests didn't really matter and only caused her to get a few more stretch marks and cost her a few months of being pregnant. Don't pay them 3 million.

    2. If they do want the kid, then the tests being botched didn't really matter and they get a few grand for being surprised. Don't pay them 3 million.

But I agree with loco, the shocking thing is making public that they would have killed their kid and scaring her and their other kids for life.

That is media spin. They obviously wanted a child, but they did not want the financial and emotional burden of raising a Downs Syndrome child. Due to the failure of the clinic, they now must raise a Downs Syndrome child at great expense.

That ain't how it works, when you are negligent, you must pay for resulting expenses caused by your negligence..

How many Downs Syndrome children have you adopted? It just doesn't happen much.

They are responsible for the child and it doesn't end at age 18, it is a lifetime. The $3 million is to pay expenses of raising the child, it is not punitive damages.

Anti-abortion hyperbole. Most people are not the least bit shocked by prudent parents wanting to have a child that will not have to deal with extreme handicaps for his entire life.
