Let me preface this first... Some of you might have moved as a kid and continue to like you hometown team or the closest team to where you were raised and you continue to support them in whatever way. But I really wanted to know how many of you out there are a fan of the closest team due to location. Some fans might find it better economically for you (at least you can drive, and have to fly, to see a game of whatever magnitude). I just find it odd that people like teams from all over the country that don't even go to see them play. Some fans may have a NFL team close by and not a MLB team. Some cities may have 2 professional teams and not a third. Fans who live in big cities may find it easier to like all 3 teams. Of course you may live in a state that doesn't have any pro teams so that's a little dufferent. Watching "your team" on cable is one thing (even if you have to buy the NFL/MLB/NBA/NHL package to see them play) but shelling out money for tickets plus airline tickets or a big gas bill (which is a lot cheaper now), etc. is another especially if you like several sports teams located in different cities/regions around the country. I think that it's really hard to stay connected to a team if all you do is watch them on TV or on the computer and keep up with on various websites. To me there's no real connection until you go see them play at home. Being a fan can get real expensive, unless you just have tons of money. I wonder if it's better economically speaking to choose a team that's based closer to where you live....you usually can watch all their games on TV without having to pay for it and still travel (drive) to several games a year would be a lot cheaper in the long run. I guess you could grow to like a certain team despite whether they win or not, even thought winning does help. I said all that to ask this... 1. How much does geography (your birthplace or where you were raised or now living) play in determining professional sports teams you like? 2. Do think it's better for a person to follow a team that is closest to them? Discuss...
