agreed. it's stupid to play this. this is the only game where the tackling is worse than the seahawks game. no one wants to play, they just want the free vacation.
All all-star games are the same. Fun for the first quarter or so but after that, it just drags on. You vote the players in to see how they would play together. There would be some epic games if everyone tried to win like a regular season game.
I disagree. MLB has made the game matter by giving home field in the world series to the winning league. Basketball it matters a little more because all of those guys want to prove they're better than the other. If nothing else it's more entertaining because no one plays defense. I haven't watched hockey but I like how they have the competition between nations. But the NFL just sucks. And it makes sense too. No one wants to get hurt or to be sore after the game. It's just too much punishment to play at full speed. They'll never be able to change that. That's why they have to have it in Hawaii. It adds a little intrigue to the players and fans.
The Pro Bowl game should be abolished. The players are afraid to get hurt and this makes it a joke. The NBA all star game should also be done away with because no one plays defense. Again is anyone going to take a charge or give a hard foul? IMO playing any pro game half way is a disgrace to the sport itself that you are playing. The Baseball all star game is a little better just because it doesn't require as much contact, but I think the days of Pete Rose breaking Bob Fossies? bones at home are long over. If you can't play a game all out---don't play it at all. Abolish every damn one of them.
If you think about it, the skills competitions at the NBA game and the Home Run Derby at MLB have become as big, if not bigger, than the game themselves. So come up with some skills competitions for the NFL stars and have it a day or two before the Super Bowl, in the Super Bowl city. I think ESPN has done made-for-TV events like this before, but if you mix it into the Super Bowl festivities it would draw a lot more attention. And do away with the Pro Bowl.
I would rather watch what you propose too instead of the Pro Bowl. Drew Brees could test his accuracy, etc.. After the steroid scandal in baseball, McGwire, Bonds, Sosa, etc.., it soured me on the Home Run Derby. I don't watch it any more. But always remember it is about the money. If the NFL can't make more money doing away with the Pro Bowl they won't do it.
You watch the games for the entertainment, but after a while you realize that it is just entertainment. I think baseball did good by making it count but I guess when there's so many players in each all-star game, it's hard to make it count. It's should be more select, because I can't take it that seriously when there's that many players playing.
