Let me throw this thought out there... I think it's a W for Bama based on it's a John Chavis defense. Fast, aggressive, but undisciplined. Look at the personal fouls against Auburn as one example. I've followed Chavis for years and that's been a trait of all of his defenses. A punch in the mouth and players lose their cool for a bit...resulting in a few mistakes that mean the game. That's how I see it coming down...at least one part of it. I do find it interesting seeing some people take Trent lightly. Heck, he's got more yards after contact on carries this year than any running back on your team. He's great out of the backfield—which has been acknowledged here—but I suspect it's going to be a couple of runs between the tackles that breaks the defense. There are some preposterous posts out there this week...and it's likely to get worse. One of the ones I've found amusing dealt with Eddie Lacy.
If we're going to use the "It's a _____ defense" argument, then let's do so fairly. I think this is a W for LSU because it's a Nick Saban defense: stout for most of the game, but giving up the occasional back-breaking big play. We've followed Saban's defenses for years, and that has always been one of their traits.
We'll take a few insignificant penalties for our defense's lights out play. Penalties won't make or break this game. Richardson is a great player, but not a game changer. He won't be the deciding factor in this, or any other, game.
Discipline is a Miles issue, not a Chavis issue. end of story. Who is taking Trent lightly?? We all know he is good. We also all know he is stoppable. TN held him to just 77 yrds last week. Bama put up only 143 yrds rushing total against TN in Tusc. .... LSU put up 237 against the same defense at Neyland Stadium. What is preposterous is to treat Bama as some sort of unbeatable Gods in Uniform. Any team can be beat. Who'd a thought TT would have spanked OU?? .. Nobody .. but they did!!! The FACT is, nobody really knows how good Bama is. They have not faced squat for competition. I'm figuruing their Defense is really good, but won't know how good until they face the complete attack of LSU. I'm figuring their offense is really good .. but won't know how they stack up until they face the LSU defense. .... AND .. based purely on the raw data, LSU has turned in a similar performance against statistically significant tougher competition. In head to head performances ... Take FL .... there was nothing lacking in the FL defense ... based purely on offensive score ... do we expect the LSU-Bama Game to be 41-31 LSU wins?? How about TN, will the game be 38-37 LSU wins?? [and lord knows, LSU's offense didn't even try in that game]. I think this is going to be a really good game. But .. unlike you, I don't see that Bama has any advantage. In fact, they have two really big disadvantages ... a pathetic kicking game, and no real down the field, outside threat. Bama may hold LSU to 20 something points .. may even hold them in the teens ... but LSU's defense will do the same to them. Don't kid yourself.
