Someone worth keeping an eye on for the 2008 class is defensive back Prentiss Waggner (6-2, 185 lbs) out of Clinton High School. The Louisiana Sports Writers' Association named him the class 2A outstanding defensive player of the year. In his first year on the defensive side of the ball he made an incredible 16 interceptions, 12 of which were made in the regular season, and ran 3 back for TDs. In addition he made 70 tackles, broke up 11 passes and forced two fumbles.
It's always hard to project a DB to the college level, mainly because you don't get much to go off of with high school ball being run happy. But damn, if you can make 16 interceptions with another 11 broken up, then you simply can't ignore those stats. Guy sounds like someone with great football instincts and lots of speed (returned 3 for TDs) and would be a definite impact player.
I work with a family member. I think his last name is spelled Waggner. Don't know if he'll be a big time prospect, but he impressed LSU coaches at camp during the summer. Georgia Tech expressed some interest, as well.
