I like the idea of Brennan playing significant time vs Southeastern La & Rice, but if if there is serious consideration of him red shirting this year, I would not play him for just a 1-2 series vs. the SEC teams unless absolutely necessary. There is always the possibility of Burrow getting a concussion or sprain where he might be out a game or 2. Anything more serious then burn the red shirt and go with Brennan.
I'm not getting the paranoia surrounding a potential injury to Burrow. Burrow needs to play at least 3 1/2 quarters and hopefully throw 40 passes. This goes for the receivers as well, who did not perform well vs Miami. They need the reps and their confidence boosted. Have you people learned absolutely nothing from the last several years? Burrow needs to be ramped up as quickly as possible or you can kiss a victory over Auburn goodbye.
It’s a good argument. Getting Brennan some quality reps is important, but does it supersede Burreaux and WRs getting their chemistry/timing down.
My point being is Brennan won't be helping us beat Auburn. The next week vs La Tech, yeah maybe a little more PT for Brennan. But this needs to be a passing clinic (hopefully) in preparation for Auburn. Otherwise that defense is stacking the box daring us to pass. And if he only throws 13 passes vs SEL, then let's just say this won't end well.
I wouldn't show Aub anything I didn't have to. One of the things I heard the Miami players say after the game was that we did things on offense they didn't expect. I would do whatever SEL gives us whether it's 40 passes to win or 13 passes to win.
Brennan isn't playing in any of the big games. We need to go all in with Burrow. Plain and simple. Brennan can get reps next season.
