It's time to put the Kentucky Derby behind and look forward to next Saturday and the Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. Many will tell you that what horse racing needs is a Triple Crown winner. I'm not one of those people. A Triple Crown Champion will pump up the sport for maybe a week. I don't believe it will bring any new fans into the sport. It's time for racing fans to realize that it is a niche sport. Casual fans will only pay attention three or four times a year. With that said, I'm looking for a horse that can beat Big Brown. Why you ask? Simple, I gamble and I can't justify betting $2.00 on a horse that will pay $2.20 to win. Big Brown will be an overwhelming favorite by post time. So who is that horse -- I'm doing my homework and will let you know later this week.:hihi:
You start making more threads about other races and I will start following the sport. I know NOTHING about it so I dont follow but I would love to learn. I would like to see Big Brown win the TC because the last one was the year I was born and it would be cool if the year my son is born there is a Triple Crown winner, but thats just from a personal stand point!
As good a reason as any! I hope it happens for you and your son -- maybe we can have two new fans with a common bond
Horse racing needs only for all the horses to survive this and the belmont. If they have to shoot another horse on the track, it will be a death blow to the sport. Having said that, I lost all interest once the announcers stopped screaming "AND DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME!" on final legs of the races. That was always the most exciting part.
Every track announcer has his signature call of the races. Terry Wallace has a very distict "And they're off", as do others. I the great Dave Johnson made "and down the stretch they come" his signature. http://www.horse-races.net/sounds/dwnstrch.wav
I'm calling my shot on Tuesday before the post draw tomorrow. The winner of the Preakness Stakes is BEHINDATTHEBAR! If this horse had qualified for the Derby, he would have been my pick. Watch his last effort in the Coolmore Lexington Stakes here: ESPN - Behindatthebar wins Lexington Stakes - Horse Racing Sometimes I wonder if I'm just talking to myself...
Quite frankly, this information alone is enough for me to make a bet, so no, you aren't talking to yourself.
Whatever man, I've been with you since your first thread and I just haven't gotten a chance to do my homework. I will be in atlanta tomorrow with time to do it. I will report back! I like the name of that one though, and I always make one bet on my fav names no matter what!
Gayego will add blinkers and has been tearing up the workouts since the derby. He was a late consideration and the reason he was entered is because he came out of the derby so well, and has been improving since. Big Brown does not seem to have faired as well. His workouts have been slow, and he has required much more rest. Plus his hoof problem keeps him from training like he should.
