i remember last year the media got all over spurrier because he didn't vote tebow sec pre-season 1st team qb. think he said he just forgot or something...
so each Mississppi School plays 8 BCS teams this year Boise plays 2 Mississippi St. has 6 ranked teams on their schedule Boise has 2 Mississippi St's opponents have won a combined 5 National Championships this decade (and one undefeated season with no title) Boise's opponents have won a combined 0 national titles in the history of our planet.
IF somebody held a gun to you hed and made you bet everything you own would you bet on Boise State or Florida? No way Boise is the third or 5th best team in the NCAA.. They are ranked ahead of a few good teams who would expose them for the pretenders they are much like Florida did to Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl
I thought Bama was suppose to expose Utah. The BCS system encourages all this chatter of who is worthy and who is not. As long as sportswriters and coaches (or some flunky in their office) decide the BCS line up, the chatter will always be there. In a playoff of conference champions (plus), it would take two or three wins to get to the championship game and all pretenders would be exposed. Right now, BCS teams get four to six weeks to prepare for one game... that fact, in itself, affects the competition. But it is what it is.... and in this system the Utah's and Boise's have as much right to be ranked high as anyone else. It could only be more biased if we let the fans pick the teams!!
It wasn't too long ago that Boise State upset Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl (2007). Preseason polls are popularity contests and IMHO are basically the equivalent of a Miss Universe pageant for the sports world. The season levels everything out and the BCS rankings - even though they too have been weakened by an increased influence on human voters after our 2004 crystal trophy - do formulate using SoS as a factor. I guarantee you that if Boise was undefeated and only defeated one team in the last 1/2 of the top 25, their BCS ranking will be lower than any 1 loss team that has beaten more than one ranked team. I think preseason rankings and polls are a reward for how well a team finished the year before and there is nothing wrong with that. It is the polls deeper into the season that count.
Sorry, I read your first post as you being a smart ass...I agree with you on this. They arguably have the easiest in the SEC.
I It wasn't for the NC, or we would have tried harder, Honest! Some TCU fans have stated that their team didn't play well because they were disappointed they were playing Boise St. The opposite will always be as true. Any worthy BCS team that draws one of these schools in a non title situation is going to be disappointed and will probably play that way. But I do agree that a 3 game playoff would expose the Less talented non BCS types as well as some from the bigger conferences. When you have a NC game like last time, there's not as much to complain about, given the circumstances of the two teams. But if anyone can figure out how to get us there, all these SEC teams would be more then happy to bring their resume and come running.
Preseason polls should be abolished. The first poll should come out no sooner than after the 3rd full week of the season.
(1) I'm sure that gives you great comfort... no way Utah might have just been the better team that year, right???? (2) It would warm the cockles of my heart, tickle me pink, and make my vodka/tonics taste even better to have a playoff where finally some sunbelt team has to venture into the confines of Iowa in early to mid-December with a high of 20 and 30 mile an hour winds blowing west to east for round one of the playoffs. The pros and division II schools have to do it, why not Division I? It would be fun, dontchathink?:yelwink2:
