I don't know the answer to why he hasn't been replaced. The overwhelming argument on this board is that our backups are not smart enough to see the field and that Welter "knows how to position people". I would venture to say that if Welter played on, let's say, 60 defensive snaps vs ULM, that he made an impact on 2 plays at most. At the MLB position, mind you. That's just a mindboggling stat. No other team would have that player on the field playing at that feeble a level. His most effective play is to rush in to tap a player after an LSU player has tackled him. True story.
Maybe he gets the other 10 guys in the right spot and the idea behind is that 1 of those 10 will make the play???? But maybe if we put someone else in there, there is a strong chance we're not lined up correctly or have some miscommunication (See Saints Defense) on that side of the ball which could create lots of other problems. ??? This is the only conclusion I can come to. 10 studs and 1 dud on the field and everyone knows what to do vs 11 studs on the field with chaos and mass confusion?????
Well, it's not a stat at all, is it? You made it up. Welter's two tackles were exactly as many as LaCouture, one more than Hunter, and one less than Rasco and Godchaux. Teams run away from mighty Welter. His Vulcan Death Tap is feared throughout the SEC.
No, I am saying he's not paying attention and you are worse. Welter is the third leading tackler on the team with 11.
Well there are two sides to MLB. Talent ay the position and MOST important, getting the D lined up. You, in theory, can afford to have 1 guy as a weak-link as apposed to all 11 because the wrong D was called....
Well Craig Loston, even more recently. Talk about a kid that was completely lost on the field. Had no clue what he was doing out there. Just looking for a head to decapitate.
