The sad truth is that all the ranting won't solve shit. Real govt reform and cost cutting needs to start at local level and trickle up. Cut spending at local, city and county and I believe it will make a signifant difference at state and federal level. I see where hundreds of thousands could be saved by local public works, police, and city and county fire deptartments.

And I'm all for a flat tax. If people take home their whole paycheck then they would probably buy more stuff and go out more. This would also generate revenue from illegals and drug dealers, they have to buy stuf to. It's kind of a no brainer.

You are the one sucking government tit, Mr. Federal Employee. You get subsidized food at the BX, possibly subsidized base housing, a pension, and lifetime free medical care at the VA.

I won't even receive Social Security. I'm paying taxes so you can get your government handouts in addition to your salary. How about a big thank you? :D

I work for for a private employer jackass.

You must not know anything about military pay or benefits do you?

Regardless, I guess the part where full time military members ACTUALLY WORK escapes you.

    The health care isn't free.

LOL......goood one. The little terd....I drove 45 minutes to pick him up thinking he was sick with pink eye....I'm calling the doctors office and making appointments, calling the wife so she can leave work to be at home with him, etc. I get there and when we get about five miles from the summer camp he asks me if he could play PS3 when he got home. After a few prying questions I concluded that he was just tired of being at camp and was ready to play video games. Could've killed him! Needless to say his little ass didn't play PS3 and won't be for a while.......

    kids....

Well, you have USAF in your sig line, Nimrod. Are you a vet or aren't you? If so, you are receiving government benefits.

Most of the poor are retirees, students, and the working poor, not homeless bums refusing work, does that escape you?

It's paid for by tax dollars and is still a government benefit.

I did 6 years active duty and am serving in the Texas Air National Guard. I get paid $300 a month and opted out of the healthcare that I would have had to PAY FOR. Why? b/c it was not any better or cheaper than what my EMPLOYER offers.

$150 of that $300 goes to my 6 hour drive there and 6 hour drive back home. You outline these extra benefits I get.. B/c there are none that I receive.

You are missing the point. The military is a service EVERYONE in this country receives without question.

On the other hand, I get no such wellfare benefits these other people get. Huge difference.

Again, it is not a benefit b/c you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. Vets PAY TRICARE MONEY..

The only way to get FREE healthcare is to have been seriously wounded in BATTLE or during training.

You dont just serve 4 years and NEVER pay for healthcare again.

I do not question that military service earns one certain well-deserved benefits. I'm just noting that the money that is paid for welfare is small compared to the government benefits that almost everybody receives in the way of the VA, social security, medicare, disability, federal pensions, farm subsidies, etc.

Don't forget all the money we send to counties like Pakistan and Africa. I feel like its not our duty to pay for the choices they make. And I totally agree on farm subsidies also. If you can afford a $50000 pickup and a $100000 hunting club and $125000 club house and can work your guys 12 hrs a day 7 days a week at straight time you don't need my money.

In most cases this is money well spent. We learned from the British 150 years ago that it is cheaper and more effective to bribe small countries to get what you want rather than wage war upon them or threaten them.

What gives Americans a global military reach is an unparalleled logistical capability. That requires several hundred overseas bases, port access, supply depots, airfields, communications stations, and other facilities as well as overflight rights in over 100 countries. This does not come cheap. China is spreading a lot of money around and they do not have our best interests in mind.

Pakistan is a problem because we need them for supply routes into Afghanistan and we can't pull the cash to influence them while this situation exists. But . . . once that force gets drawn down to 20,000 or less US troops, we can supply them through the 'stans and with air logistics. I expect to see us to pull most of Pakistans subsidy as soon as that situation resolves itself in a year or so.
