Two weeks of just averageness.... 1 free TD of a int and 2 more b/c of SP teams... SP teams was something we could rely on. Is it just a fluke? Or do I need to do a dance before each SP teams play.. On a Side note, I guess SP teams ended up saving the day lol.////
It's ok if special teams slacked a bit. The offense has taken on it's share of the load so it would seem. There will be down days for the D, down days for the special teams unit, and as we've seen earlier in the year, down days for the offense.. What's important is when there is a sub-par day on one of those fronts, the other 2 step up and get the win. I'm ok with that.
Florida is a very good special teams team. I think when they were playing Tennessee they showed a state where Florida was giving up a ridiculous 2 yards per punt return over a 3 year period or something crazy like that.
This is a good question. I believe that it has to do with the level of competition. TN and FL have better, faster, athletes across the board then our first 4 opponents. We are still doing a great job with field position. I think we will be fine on special teams.
There really wasn't a single returnable punt from Florida that I can remember. Peterson was trying to make stuff happen but they just have a great punt team. Nothing you can do about it when you catch the ball and there's two guys within three yards of you.
That kickoff return by Florida. Isn't the flying wedge supposed to be illegal this year? Blockers are not supposed to be closer than 1 yard apart, but there were four clustered blockers (it looked like a wedge to me) that he ran behind early in the run. No flag. But Jasper should have been in better position to save the TD, as it was he almost had an angle on him, but if he had been closer to the sidelines, he might have forced the returner inside or slowed him to allow pursuit to catch up. Brother Peterson may have fumbled and cramped his way out of a Heisman trophy. Thank God we have Matthieu to cover for him on defense. After he took a fair catch of a returnable ball against State, he seems to have vowed never to fair catch again, but he needs to learn where to draw the line. The team doctors need to get to the bottom of his cramping issue pretty damn quick.
I tried to warn some of you guys not to make early judgements of special team play after the UNC game, Tigers are playing better teams now. I think LSU special team play is good but not great like some of you guys thought is was.
I still think our SP teams is good and well above average, I just think in the that PP made 1 really bad play and our kicking team just didn't get in the right position.. No doubt it will be addressed....
The team doctors need to get to the bottom of his cramping issue pretty damn quick. I don't think there's much that they can do. Cramping is a genetic trait...actually it's been proven to be a trait linked to the X chromosome.
