"We have to run the ball between the tackles," Gruden said. "We have to be a physical team up front. We're going to challenge our offensive line to be physical. We're not going to spread out and go no huddle every down and throw the ball 65 times a game. I intend on pounding the ball and being able to pound the ball."
YEA. POUND THAT SHI... Just as Marvin Lewis wanted. And who said this hire was made by anyone other than our head coach? We're not going to say that this team is changing at the level we all believe it needs to be made. But... Power rushing game and west coast offense, here we come.
Undersized? Looks to me that Oregon's D-line is bigger than LSU's D-line. I guess that make LSU's D-line undersized? **Heights and weights taken from LSU and Oregon official websites. LSU (If I'm wrong on the players I apologize, all I could find are projected starters from spring. Is Mingo going to start?) DE - Sam Montgomery 6-4 245 DT - Michael Brockers 6-6 306 DT - Anthony Johnson 6-3 310 or Josh Downs 6-1 287 DE - Ken Adams 6-5 255 Avg: 6-4, 279 w/Johnson, 6-4, 273 w/Downs 3.8 stars Oregon DE - Terrell Turner 6-3 273 DT - Wade Keliikipi 6-2 300 DT - Ricky Heimuli 6-4 321 DE - Brandon Hanna 6-2 240 or Dion Jordan 6-7 240 Avg: 6-3, 283 w/Hanna, 6-4 283 w/Jordan Just sayin'...
In football size has little to do with playing, TM#7, is one of the smaller to play the position, but you can match him against most. At 5'9" 175#'s, I'll take him. The only thing is the OL will be going against the DL, not DL against DL. On LSU's OL we have 8 players that have started games and a total of 10 that have in game playing time. I do see Oregons starting 4, three of those players have 18 or less tackles last year. Montgomery had that many an was injured in the 5th. game. At around 240#'s last year, not many were able to slow him down. In that short season, he had 18 tackles, 2 sacks and 4 TFL. Mingo has added weight, he was under 240 last year, he finished with 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 TFL, 6 pass broken up and 4 QB hurries. Our DC (Chief) will give up size (Weight) for speed everytime. I never worry about size, speed, weight, height, etc., you can play football or you can't. :tigereye:
I don't think either line is undersized. But I do know that DC John Chavis' defenses have fielded slightly smaller but significantly quicker and harder-hitting players. “I’ll never sacrifice speed for size,” Chavis has said. I've added their 40 speeds to your list.
