You can exempt yourself from Obamacare. All you have to do is purchase a health plan that meets minimum requirements. I assure you, the plan that congress has, and that they do pay premiums for, meets those minimums.

I was hired at the FD full time back in August so I have health insurance now. Only time I've had insurance since I got out of the Navy in '88. So I may be ok. Guys at the shop aren't so lucky. New welder was asking me about ACA last week. Said after he pays all if his bills he only has about $160 a month to live on. He can't afford a health insurance plan. I feel his pain on that. When I was his age I gave a 1/3 of my salary a week to my ex wife for child support and alimony. If somebody told me I had to purchase health insurance I'd have told them to kiss my ass. No way I could have afforded it.

The welder would get a subsidy and would actually now be able to afford healthcare. Guys like him benefit the most from the ACA.

Where is @stevescookin ? With his pre-existing condition and personal insurance status, the ACA should help him out a lot.

Yeah. You would think it would be good for him, unless he makes enough money to not get a subsidy. He will be able to get insurance if he can afford it.

My informal poll of the only self employed people I know indicates ACA is bad for 2 out of 3 Americans.

Insurance companies are rejecting the hell out of anything they consider pre existing conditions right now. My wife, who usually doesn't pay for office visits was told her insurance rejected paying because of a pre existing condition. Also happened to a co-worker of mine, whose insurance rejected paying anything on a surgery his wife had, because of pre existing conditions. I think these vampire insurance companies are trying to cash in as much as they can while they can. Bastards.

Seriously....If I were king of America, I would make a list of the most common diseases that insurance companies can't make money on. Then I would have the government treat those conditions for free so insurance companies would be able to make mega buck$ on insurance by insuring diseases that few people will get. Then whenever an insurance salesman would explain their coverage across from you at the kitchen table....just start asking what are the odds that you'll get those diseases that they insure. The answer would be slim to none. Then tell the insurance salesman that you'll just take your chances and GTFO my house.

ACA sucks because requiring everyone to get insurance is a boon to the health insurance companies that I hate for what they do to the doctors, hospitals and policy holders.

I'll wait till the last minute and see how low the rates are first. They should all go down....but we all know they wont.

I'm not sure of the goodness or badness of ACA for me. I would really like to get insurance and a prescription plan, but I'll have to see what shakes out with the rates. I may not be able to afford it. I have a lot of questions, but so do most people.

Interestingly, I'm hearing a lot of complaints from my minority friends because they thought it was free insurance. Now they realize that they have to get insurance.

The Obama supporters at the shop think its a gimme. They don't know anything about having to sign up for it. I'm not about to tell them either. They'll find out sooner or later.
