I have always judged CLM's coaching/recruiting talent for his own.

Looks like I struck a nerve here.:rolleye33: I was just pointing out something for discussion, but I understand the animosity of the statement. Afterall, when the Tigers just won their second NC in not so many years, you look at who's at the helm right? :thumb::milesmic:

But, just for discussion sake, I think folks can be a little hypocritical about this, depending on which side of the glass they look through. When Smoke won early on in his coaching career, he was doing it with Skip's players, right? When Paul M came in and lost early, he was losing because of Smoke's players right? This "LSU is LSU" talk is kind of nice when you're winning NCs, but what if you're losing? Smoke was definitely fired b/c he couldn't recruit, or if he did, his players weren't showing it. Brady was fired in part b/c he didn't have the support of kids like DJ Augustin or Greg Monroe. Do you blame that on LSU or the coach?

I agree with you all--Les did something with these players in his years, and perhaps in more ways than one, those players associate more with Les than they ever will with Saban--but they're still Saban's recruits--he signed them. If you're going to truly judge a coach, on his recruiting, his coaching, etc., you can't completely divorce his success from the players themselves. Do you think that LSU would have had the success this year without Glenn Dorsey, Early Doucet, Matt Flynn or Jacob Hester? All Saban's recruits. Yes, Les "coached them", coaxed them and developed them. Not saying that he didn't--and for that he is certainly respected and paid handsomely. I'm just saying it'll be interesting to see where LSU is and where Miles' recruits are, from a "pure talent" standpoint, next year. How well will some of Mile's senior classmen step up? How well will his guys be scouted and drafted? Is that a judge of his recruiting ability?

Right now, I think RP has been an interesting picture of Les's vs. Saban's recruiting. Some of Les's WRs are talented but need to step up and show consistency. Clearly there are some good RBs there. On the defensive side, we'll need to see how these guys develop--there have been some big names, now let's see their results on the field.

I think certainly the question is a little academic, given that LSU is still a talented team with Les's recruits. If his results dip though in a year or two, is that b/c of his players or because of his coaching?

It was the "tone" of your post. To me it said: "OK smartass, let's see what you can do now?"

Do you think Miles would have been sitting on his kiester during Recruiting season had he been coach 5 years ago?

All redshirts who never played a down of football for Nick.

They may be Nick's recruits, but they have been Les' players for their entire playing career.

As stated earlier, Saban era was over the moment he announced he was taking the Miami job. As LSU fans, we have been judging Coach Miles recruiting/coaching abilities for his own, oftentimes very critically. The media are the only ones that haven't been judging Coach Miles as not recruiting and coaching on his own...

You will find that the more you bring up Saban in comparison with Les, you will probably not be responded to in a positive way...

They are technically Saban's recruits, but what has he ever done for them? Nothing.
LSU will be the same next year as it was last year. We lose some key players, but we do every year. We have the same coaches and most of the same players...LSU always has top recruits. I think someone is still living in the past...let's drop the "Miles' recruits" and "Saban's recruits" titles. They play for the SAME team.

Tger, didn't strike a nerve just pointing out some holes in the logic.

Development is key and these players you mention had very slim to no development under Nick. That goes hand in hand with NFL potential. Most of these players you mention would have been at LSU regardless if it was Nick or Les as the coach. As you can tell, Les' recruiting is on par or better than it was under Nick and this next class will continue to show that.

And my LSU is LSU comment was about how these players are not just coming here because of the coaches anymore, it is a key factor but so is the LSU prestige and Academic center that we here recruits mentioning everyday are becoming big factors as well.

Also, I think you have seen how Les' recruits are performing on the field. I also expect to see LSU competitng for SEC and NC for many years to come.

Nick Saban Was Great In My Mind....

Well, Not So Great At The Pro Level But You Get My Drift....

I Can't Help But Think That He Will Be A Big Part In Turning Alabama Around....Maybe Drawing Recruits Out Of Louisiana A Little More Over Time...And Then Having An Affect On LSU....

Les Getting A Championship Definitely Keeps The Tigers At The Forefront Of Recruiting But If Bama Beats The Tigers Next Season And LSU Doesn't Repeat....I Could See It Having An Affect On Recruitment Because Saban Did Pretty Good In His First Year As Far As Competing In The SEC....

    I Guess Time Will Tell....

I don't think Nick Saban is a "great" coach. I think he is a good coach with a nack for recruiting. I definitely think he will turn Bama around but I don't think this year's game in BR is that detrimental to either one of these teams from a future recruiting standpoint. Look, we lost to La-Monroe AT FRIGGIN' HOME and didn't see one hick up in the recruiting class. Hell, it might have helped us .

But all in all Saban knows exactly what he's doing in the recruiting department and (IMO) is where he has the edge on a lot of coaches. But I wouldn't label him a great coach. Good, but not great.

    And yes time will tell...
