If it's just coincidence or not, the fact that he "opened things up" very close to the time word of Dunbar leaving is troublesome to say the least. I was hoping that Miles would have made a public statement about the vacant D-line coaching position and his insight on who he would be going after (even if he wouldn't mention specific candidates) ...you know--a little damage control if you will for the players we're recruiting along the D-line. Then again, for all we know, he's already informed the players and it's just us, the fans, that haven't been comforted?
what about quinn johnson? from what i had heard and the little i had seen he was doing very well in practice. one thing that i look to maybe happen is maybe a switch to outside lb for sanders if beckwith is as good as he has looked in practice. im with the others in i just don't see LS having the killer instinct for a mike linebacker. i wouldn't be surprised though if the starting lb's were sanders, ali, and beckwith. with coleman, jacob, and odom and quinn fighting for the backup roles. how big is odom? isn't he a little lite in the ass right now?
Odom's profile on rivals originally had him listed as 6-foot-2 and 196 lbs. (but it seems as though that weight was recorded at the beginning of the summer, when the majority of these recruits begin getting ranked, going to camps, etc.). Since, I have read articles that since the beginning of last summer, he's added some weight and is up to around 210-212. Not exactly where we need him to be, but it's not far off from the playing weight of Ali Highsmith, EJ Kuale, Harry Coleman and Darry Beckwidth (who all just so happen to be listed at 225 lbs.). Kuale and Beckwidth I could believe weigh 225 (Luke Sanders is listed as 222 lbs.....and he plays "MIKE" ). Highsmith...to me, for some reason, seems to look more like 215-220...but perhaps that's just the single digit #7 "slimming" him down??? :hihi: Anyhow...if Odom is, in fact, 210 lbs. now, it's not hard to imagine Moffit putting him on a workout program over the summer (whether he attends summer school at LSU! or not) where he can put on 10 lbs. between now and August. He'll be ready.
one person we forgot bb was spadoni. he should easily be a #2 at one of the positions. remember last year he played some and it was his first year at the position. jv told me that he was the hardest hitter on the team so i know he can lay the wood.
You're right, I did forget about Spadoni. I'm still not accustomed to mentioning him at LB because of all the time he spent as a backup running back on the roster.
