There are positives and negatives regarding the Troy game cancellation.

    Positives
    1. A week off to heal minor injuries, bumps and bruises
    2. No gametime injuries can occur to hurt LSU (GA, FLA, AU, etc)
    3. Longer time to evaluate ASU game & strategize for an AU game
    4. NTU, our next opponent will be a pass happy 50 point underdog and we won't need to spend much time on a game plan. It's going to be a confidence builder for both QBs.
    5. No stress on LSU in aftermath of Gustav for cleanup/game prep.

    Negatives
    1. A tougher test than ASU with a chance to gain QB experience lost.
    2. Loss of $$$ for our University could happen with another ppd game if Ivan or another cane comes through

Anyway, there are "tears in my beer" because of the postponed game. I was looking at a chance for this defense to really dominate and beat Troy by more than the 24-point spread, showing me that this team is one of the best, if not the best, in school history.

    Thoughts?

Ivan was so 2004, but I digress.

Your points all have merit. The one that I like is the extra week to study game film of the AppSt game, but also the chance to study AU game film, while AU can't study our game film from this week.

Seems like we will have some extra time to really focus on the things we learned from the AppSt game, and turn the negatives into positives.

IMHO, LSU made the right decision...but should have made it sooner instead of waiting 'til midweek. The decision was a no brainer.

I agree with this, although I'm not as miffed about the timing.

To the negatives, I'd add this one:

I don't think North Texas will test the QBs and DBs very hard. Conversely, I think Troy is a much better team and would have been a much better test. So IMO the QBs will enter the Auburn game without having been tested at all. Let's face it - our OLine handled App State's DLine really well. Hatch and Lee have yet to feel serious and constant pressure.

There are plenty of negatives to not playing this week, but I still feel like it was a no brainer to postpone.

I hope our team can turn this into an advantage in some way, though the loss of valuable experience going into AU is disheartening.

If it's any consolation, though, Les Miles-coached teams have typically started strong on the season, so I feel that he and his staff have been preparing us well going in.

Hopefully, we'll 1) stay free of hurricanes from here on out and 2) not feel beaten down by the adverse living conditions in place.

There is no other way to look at it. Inexperienced at QB, OLB and CB. These guys need their reps. Troy appeared to be the best test overall to prepare us for the SEC. Had this been the North Texas game, I would not have cared as much.

Avoiding injuries is definitely a plus.

Oh well, it is what it is.

I still say we beat Auburn.

i agree on the needing the reps and game experience. but, you are exactly right in it is what it is.

now we just hope for the best and remind ourselves that what is important is the damage and loss from gustav wasnt worse.

Maybee North Texas is cursed. It seems like every year we are scheduled to play them, a hurricane messes up the schedule....

No harm, no foul. If the decision had been made earlier people would have complained that they needed to wait, so it's a non issue IMO. Besides, when were they going to call it? During the hurricane? Doubtful so you're only looking at one day's difference.
