“When I got here I realized how important this was to them at ULL,” Williams said. “Their fans despise our fans; I guess we’re looked at as these snobby people or something like that. I know they’re definitely going to come in here with their heads high.” Daily Reveille - Football: Lafayette natives not underestimating Ragin' Cajuns
if i were a ULL fan, i can't imagine how much i would hate LSU fans. good thing i'm not, b/c i don't hate ULL fans, i pity them, and that's much worse.
In all seriousness, I'm a fan of every Louisiana team, including Tulane. Of course, I want them to be embarrassed when they play LSU. But for the rest of the season, I love it when LA teams kick azz. So I don't get why ANY Ragin' Cajun fan would despise LSU. Why not root for your team and be happy for the other local teams who are doing your state proud? This rivalry stuff seems to be lost on some people. Thin skin, all around.
they hate lsu because of two reasons. athletically they think lsu has always been dominant. they are much like our fanbase and don't remember the hallman years. academically they don't like lsu because lsu gets a budget that is not fair per capita. say what you want about ul, but as far as budget goes, they do way more with way less than most universities. so that's that. i went to both schools and really don't understand why lsu fans hate ul fans so much. lsu has everything, they have nothing.
Can't speak to the LSU fans hating Ragin Cajun fans cause I don't and don't know any personally who do.
Apples and oranges. LSU is the state flagship university, ULL is a regional college. LSU pays for its Division I football program from ticket sales. Louisiana tax dollars pays for ULL's. Other than the pretentiousness of dropping the "Lafayette" from their name, which I tease them about, I have no problems with ULL or their fans. It's not hate to make fun of a rival.
well that's kinda sums up the feelings in lafayette. they feel like lsu does not earn what they get, they just get it. it's really just your basic big brother/little brother argument. i personally see no reason to block them from being called the university of louisiana. if lsu has nothing to fear, then there's nothing to fear. conversely, i see no reason that they can't call themselves the university of lafayette. let's face it, ULL is awkward and dumb sounding. this would also make lafayette sound like a bigger more prestigious city. also, on the hate/mocking thing. making fun is one thing, calling them a name (usl) that they haven't been called in over ten years is disrespect. that's what i don't understand. but i'll close on that, i support both schools. i argue for both schools. i just agree with the original poster that the whole usl thing is in really poor taste.
ULM would give anything to go back to NLU. They should all get together and go back to their previous (historic) names. I say screw them all though.
