I coudnt do half the things I now do well 20 years ago. I believe O was a different guy back then. I am judging O from USC on. Being an interim coach is a very very tough gig. Kids came to USC and LSU to play for the HC not some interim coach. There is attrition as some players leave, some are not inspired and some disgruntled because of change of philosophy which all hurts the team. In addition you have to somehow cobble together an offensive and defensive game plan and assign coaches to what you want them to do all OVERNIGHT! Tough indeed. O took 2 tough interim jobs at 2 big time programs and did very well with both. Give the man a break B.
It's bayou math. No issues with you ragging on my support or anything else. Just giving O his due time. Hey 22-8 aint bad. I want to know what he can do as a full time HC and he has only been one for one season.
This is what is going to test Ed Orgeron's mettle. I've said this 100 times on this board and I will say it again. One of the things that made Miles a really good leader was his ability to not only recruit at a high level but to manage them once they are here. The same can be said for Saban. When you have a 2 and sometimes 3 deep roster that could start at 85% of the other schools it is not easy to keep them satisfied being 2nd fiddle. The jury is still out on if he can recruit at that level and early reporting says no but I'm willing to let it play out. Mainly because I have no choice.
You may be the only one who thinks O can't recruit. 2019 class is only his second full recruiting class and it's looking pretty damm good. We have a chance to be a top 5 or at the very least a top 10 class. Of course having a top class doesnt mean automatic greatness. If it did there would be no need to play the games.
I didn't say he couldn't recruit moe. Les left him some pretty big shoes to fill as far as recruiting goes and no one can give an accurate assessment after only a couple of years. You guys can slice this up an infinity of ways but at the end of the day it will come down to this. He HAS to find a way to beat the gumps. Les had the talent to do it but refused to change and that started the trend of us losing the cream of the crop to the red menace. O has to find a way to turn that around. It is a near impossible task but where there is a will there is a way.
OK but if beating the gumps decides if coaches will be fired than 9 to10 coaches will be fired every year. Before you tell me I am lowering the bar at LSU we have to be pragmatic. To come near beating Bama we need a cohesive coaching staff along with great recruiting. We will get neither if we are constantly changing out coaches because we can't do what it seems no one else can do beat Bama. The reason we we able to beat Bama a few times during the Miles era is that we did have a cohesive coaching staff with good to great recruiting. What we lacked was a head coach who lacked the offensive creativity to beat Bama on a fairly consistent basis, 50% would have been great.
