If he had fired Lou Tepper and his "drop linebackers", he may not have been. Sure glad he refused to. Here is what Dinardo had so say about Lou before the 1999 season: LSU finished 12th in the SEC in pass defense, 11th in total defense, ninth in scoring defense and sixth in rushing defense. Despite the calls for Tepper's ouster, DiNardo stood by him. "If I thought that one person was holding our whole operation back, then I would address it," DiNardo said. "I believe in Lou Tepper, I believe he is a very good coach and we're going to move on." ............... The biggest holes for LSU last year were at linebacker, where no one did much right, and the secondary which made stars out of opposing quarterbacks in game after game. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/sfc/sec/sfchfs26.htm Yeah they "moved on" alright, right out of town ! How telling was this article: DiNardo rankled many during the spring when he opted to stay with defensive coordinator Lou Tepper, whose philosophy fans criticized as being too complicated. A lot is on the line now, because if Tepper goes down again this season, he likely will drag DiNardo with him. http://chat.augustachronicle.com/stories/1999/08/25/foo_268576.shtml EDIT: Speaking of Lou, nice little spin in his bio regarding his exit from LSU. "Fired? No man its an opportunity, yeah, thats the ticket!" "After leaving Colorado, Tepper spent the 1988-96 seasons at Illinois. He returned to the coaching ranks as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at LSU in December 1997, in time to help the Tigers post a 27-9 victory over Notre Dame in the Independence Bowl. He spent the next two seasons at LSU before the opportunity to run the Edinboro program came his way." http://www.iupathletics.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/tepper_lou01.html
Well, Lou's record at IUP is 25-7. But he sure did stink it up here. Maybe a reason Miles didn't wait to put the axe to the co-coordinators last year. As long as Miles doesn't open a restaurant, he might be here for a while.:geauxtige
So happy to be in the Independence bowl in 95, really happy about the Peach in 96, pissed in 97, I think I actually stopped going to games in 98. My Grandparents who had season tickets didn't renew after that season too, they were getting old then. The Dark Ages of LSU football.
You know....my wife just mentioned that LSU barely won the Washington game......good luck finding her "nuts.":hihi:
