And I'm not discounting the difficulty that Arkansas always gives us. In fact, I'm recognizing that more than most. We are never going to hold down their offense for an entire game -- you have to keep the defense off the field and score more. It's not a classic grind-it-out game like, say, Auburn usually is.
But we are also another 3 plays (Florida, Auburn, Bama) from being 7-5. So, were we not determined enough to win every game every time we take the field? Obviously not...
problem with RP is that teams know he will not throw - thus they will stack the line and play man, and there goes the spread it out philosophy. sad part is, RP can throw, but GC does not let him most of the time in key situations. Flynn has shown an ability to run the ball nicely this year when healthy - he did it today on several occasions. Who knows what the answer is, and honestly I am tired of trying to think about it. If RP stays out of trouble this offseason we will find out what we did or did not miss out on next year...until then.......
In case you haven't noticed, that's they way we were under Saban every year except '03. We were like that under DiNardo (except were 2-8 and almost 7-4). That's what happens. Under Miles, we're winning more of those games than we're losing. In '06 we were 3 yards from winning the west (yet needed OT to beat Ole Piss). In '04, we were 1 PAT from winning the west (yet needed a HUGE 4th qtr to beat Troy). In '02 we were 1 busted play from winning the west (needed a miracle to beat KY). '01 didn't deserve the west, but backed into it '00 UAB anybody?
Your patience will be rewarded. 3 games from now, you'll finally have RP*. And Williams, Scott, etc instead of Hester. And then we'll see if you like the result. *If he can stay out of trouble..........
I have a buddy who is a just a big college football fan in general and I asked him for an honest opinion of CLM. He said that he felt like with all the talent we have we should be blowing people out. He felt like we have been very lucky all season.
I see two areas affecting the Tigers down the stretch: injuries and style of play. The injuries are an obvious factor weighing down our performance. The style of play, though, seems to have changed as well. We kept teams off balance early in the season. Whether it was the alternating QBs or the occasional trick play, LSU prevented teams from hitting their stride. As the season wore on, we were the team not getting it together. The dominating performances became slug fests, where the toll injuries inflicted became apparent. That said, I wish we could learn the truth what impact rumors/discussions/planning for coaching changes really had on our team. If Miles and Pelini leave this season, it is a travesty.
