Kenny Hilliard in highschool (since he was a freshman) was a scary man to play against!! Now, by the looks of it, may be a Heisman hopeful by his sophmore year! Tackling Kenny in highschool was about as hard as tackling a dumptruck! He was fast (for highschool) but boy was he big!! If you notice he doesnt really just run over people like he could...he uses his hands really well to stiffarm people to the ground. In HS he weighed about 240 but now he has muscled down and now ways a perfect 225 wich is perfect for him cause he can regain that speed he lost when he gained all that weight but can still deliver a punch. I just want to say it was an awsome experience playing football with him and congradulate him on working hard to get where he is now...and on future accomplishments which are indeed going to come.
I wondered about the Heisman talk with Kenny in the future, but I don't think there is any way he is considered because LSU will probably never use a featured tailback.
yes to both you you... he may not get all the carries but he leads the SEC in touchdowns for freshman and I believe is somewhere high for most touchdowns this season in all the SEC. Also the fact that week after week he is getting more and more carries...has to be a good sign.
Kenny is a prototypical SEC running back. Big & strong, and would rather run over you than around you. I don't remember enjoying watching a player run so much as when 27 gets the rock. He is ridiculously powerful and his legs never stop moving. Obviously, one of his best plays this year was his first TD run against Auburn where he just trucked through their front 7 like it was nothing. However, my favorite play was from that same game, and was not even a TD run. We were in AU's territory, and had a holding penalty called against us. So it was I believe 3rd down an 19. Well, Kenny gets the ball, runs through the line, over the linebackers, bounces around like a pinball between the guys in the secondary, spins, cuts, and falls forward for the first down. It was a ridiculous run in which he showcased all of his abilities. I watch him run and all I can think is that he's got the makings of a legendary back at LSU. The guy didn't even really get the ball until the Auburn game and he's already amassed 8 TDs on the year. He can obviously block really well since he's played a lot of fullback this year. Now we know that he's got great hands coming out of the backfield. He bobbled and then recovered on the TD pass Saturday, right before planting Boykin into the turf. Therefore, it's easy for me to say that he's our most complete back. I really do believe that he's good enough to be effective against bama's front 7, especially running behind Stampley or Copeland. UGA's got a great front 7, and look at what he did to those poor saps. Considering the laundry list of great running backs that have come out of Louisiana, to know that he holds the HS yardage record is really a testament to how great he will be. I look forward to several more years of 27 punishing defenses. This guy is the future of LSU football!
Awesome thread, maybe we should let the other teams keep the Heisman and we will keep the BCS trophy! There is always a chance though, that the Honey Badger takes what he wants! Kenny Hilliard is awesome, I love to see him get the ball around the 10 yard line, can't touch this!!! Then I love to see Alfred Blue and Michael Ford run from outside the 10 yard line. Damn, can't touch that either! lol What a team, what a year, what a what a?
I worry about individual awards. People are human and any time you put one above the rest it opens pandora's box. Take TM7 going to NY, for example. Sure he deserves it but dam, there were A LOT of great plays on that side of the ball. I strained in the post game with TM cause I heard him say "I" a lot more. How he handles all this be a huge character test for him.
My first ever favorite player when I was about 7 yrs old was Dalton Hilliard. I can still remember my dad jumping up from his chair yelling "Dalton!!! Look at him geaux!!!". When I was in college, my roomate was making a hand-made "Cassanova" LSU jersey and asked if I wanted one. I placed my order for a #21 Hilliard jersey. A few years later, I wore that hand-made jersey to the game against OU in the dome. A few years later, one of my uncles mentioned that Kenny's dad was an even better athlete (bigger/stronger) than Dalton but had some sort of serious injury that limited his potential. I think this was about the time Kenny was a freshman in HS and my uncle said Kenny seemed to get his dad's genes. I still have the Dalton jersey and it's tempting to slightly alter the #21 to #27 (since it would be so easy) but I think I'll leave it at #21.
