11 QB Patrick Ramsey (we need him to shine, otherwise we have no backup QB) 13 WR Rod Harper (in a fierce battle with Courtney Roby for 5th WR spot and return man) 21 SS Chip Vaughn (on the bubble after missing all of last season due to injury) 27 FS Malcolm Jenkins (pushing Sharper for starting FS job) 35 CB Reggie Jones (been outstanding in camps, pushing for nickel/dime) 48 RB Chris Ivory (really impressive camp, could push Hamilton for 3rd spot in depth chart) 67 DE Junior Galette (non stop motor edge rusher, does it get results on the field?) A whole host of players at both OLB spots, will be interesting to see how it all pans out. Arnoux, Waters and Casillas at WLB, Dunbar, Ingram and Evans at SLB. Shanle has been nursing a sore knee the last week of camp, so Arnoux and Casillas have gotten a lot more reps and are looking good. Saints came out of these 9 days of camp without any major injuries. Shanle and Shockey with knee soreness, Meachem still with a toe issue, Porter with back spasms and Colston had a knee issue but both are fine now. Sharper still not back but should be within the next week or two (cross fingers). Wilkerson and Ingram have both been brought back slowly due to injuries from late last season.
I'm also eager to watch Jimmy Graham and Al Woods. Been hearing a lot of good things about Graham and want to see what he looks like in game action. We need Woods to win the NT spot next year if not this year. We need help in the worst way there, and it looks like the coaches are hoping he's the answer there. I've been a big fan of Adrian Arrington, and with Meachem being slow to come back, he might have a chance to impress this year. Everytime I've seen him on the field, he's caught everything thrown his way, so I assume it's something we don't see in practice that's holding him back.
I don't see Ivory pushing Lynell. Lynell is being tasked with filling Mike Bell's role. He is proven. I think Ivory or PJ Hill may be able to be what Hamilton was last season.
I saw Ivory when I went to a Saints practice a week or so ago. Homeboy is fast and powerful. I wouldn't be suprised to hear that Ivory took Lynell's spot on the depth chart (especially if Hamilton's injury today was significant).
I hadn't seen that he had gone down. ESPN is reporting he is out for the season. That sucks. He is a favorite of mine. I took notice of him when he was trying to make the team in 08, and was pretty pumped to see him grow his role last year, and was even more pumped about what the coaches were expecting of him this year. The good news is that may leave room for both Ivory and PJ Hill.
