Kent State player fields a muffed punt and runs the wrong way. Just as funny is that LSU's future opponent Towson, runs the guy down and tackles him rather then letting him go all the way (the wrong way). Too bad the play didn't count. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-31751_1...h-college-player-runs-58-yards-the-wrong-way/
If it were within the rules to return it, I guess they shouldn't have tackled him until he got into the end zone. Weren't the guys pursuing him just as 'lost'?
Basically everyone on the field was ignorant of the rule. When he recovers it the play is over, ball goes nowhere, correct?
Correct. You can't advance a muffed punt. Although when you think about it, is running the wrong way "advancing it"?
Right so the guy wasn't even running the wrong way. There is no right or wrong way to run a ball that can't be moved.
