How much of the offensive playbook do you guys think is still hidden? Crowton has shown himself to be great playcaller and designer. The first two warm-ups have shown very little. I think the QB's may shine a little more when urgency is a factor. The playbook should get WAY more open. Okay, mistakes might come into play...hopefully not too many. Also, Miles seems to rarely run up the score much past 40 even with overmatched teams. I kind of like that, because he can test the waters with players that rarely get a chance, and doesn't over-reveal. So, I have confidence that the QB's will come around against AU. Why...because they have this guy... :miles:.
I know i'll be curious to see. I've got zero confidence in our deep passing capabilities, but it appears that we could have an effective short passing game which will be essential against Auburn's run defense. Also hoping to see some schemes that Mauck used to run since Hatch appears to have similar running capability. Crowton knows what strengths and weaknesses he's working with, so hopefully he has a full bag ready to execute on Saturday, but i'd be shocked and awed if we put up 14 or more against Auburn.
There is a very delicate balance between 'not showing too much' and getting your guys the reps they need to prepare for bigger games. What side of the balance we're currently on remains somewhat of a mystery, but it doesn't look too good right now. The two QB's have had a lot of touble executing even the most basic plays. To think that they will somehow be capable of running a more complex offense this weekend is a bit presumptuous.
I think it's obvious we haven't seen everything. How much though? I don't know. I'm sure we'll see quite a bit by half-time Saturday.
I agree with this. I'm not kidding myself. Just hopeful that the urgency that will be needed will translate to better execution. Seems backwards, but I just wonder if the level of competition has deluded the play. Okay, maybe it's wishful thinking. But, more complex plays may require more attention to detail. Not sure.
I am very hopeful that this is the case. Sometimes, players have to be brought into more desperate situations to reach their peak capabilities.
I don't see it as a playbook issue as much as I see it as a gameplan issue. I think we've basically seen the playbook over this and last season. There will be a wrinkle here and there, but the book is open. The gameplanning is completely different. Where do you put the emphasis? How do you use your talent? Do you roundhouse when your tendency is normally to jab? This is where Crowton makes his money in my book. The downside is that it's a complex system that requires some experience to avoid errors. I think this may be where Hatch continues to rise above Lee.
I tend to agree with this as we have seen Lee put together a nice two-minute drill and Hatch engineer a hurried-up 80 play drive where he got half of his completions Saturday.
Compared to what we saw last year? About 99% has not been shown this year and there's no telling what new wrinkles Crowton finds when he gets the opposing defensive game film.
