Feels good to say that. A once proud franchise has been the laughing stock of MLB for roughly 15 years, and have finally gotten back on top. Other great teams from the past enjoying a resurgence are the Kansas City Royals and Baltimore Orioles (2 years running now).
Being a sports fan in Pittsburgh in the 70's had to be pretty intense: 1971 Pirates World Series Champs 1974 Steelers Super Bowl Champs 1975 Steelers Super Bowl Champs 1976 Pitt Panthers NCAA National Champs 1978 Steelers Super Bowl Champs 1979 Pirates World Series Champs 1979 Steelers Super Bowl Champs Since then: 1991 Penguins Stanley Cup Champs 1992 Penguins Stanley Cup Champs 2005 Steelers Super Bowl Champs 2008 Steelers Super Bowl Champs 2009 Penguins Stanley Cup Champs
Closer to 20. They haven't really been relevant since Sid Bream slid into home plate in the NLCS back in '92. I'm pretty impressed that they've been able to sustain their good play all season long. But if the Dodgers keep up their TORRID pace, it may not matter once the postseason gets underway. Lot of good story lines in MLB this year...the Pirates, Puig, Davis (chasing Maris), Cabrera, the Dodgers, Scherzer, etc. I'm actually a hell of a lot less anxious for football to start because of it.
