"We must believe in luck. For how else can we explain the success of those we don't like?" -- Jean Cocteau

Rank SEC teams by their records in this decade. Since 2001:

UPPER TIER (division, conference and national title winners)
    1. LSU -- 2 BCS titles, 3 SEC titles, 4 SECCG appearances, .802 winning pct.
    2. Georgia -- 2 SEC titles, 3 SECCG appearances, .800
    3. Florida -- 1 BCS title, 1 SEC title, 1 SECCG appearance, .716
    4. Auburn -- 1 SEC title, 1 SECCG appearance, .750
    5. Tennessee -- 3 SECCG appearances, .709
    6. Arkansas -- 2 SECCG appearances, .597

    MIDDLE TIER (winning records)
    7. Bama -- .563
    8. Carolina -- .542

    LOWER TIER (losing records)
    9. Ole Miss -- .457
    10. Kentucky -- .409
    11. State -- .304
    12. Vanderbilt -- .271

And "lucky" LSU's only two losses were on the last play in triple overtime, having averaged 10.4 wins over the past seven seasons. :yelwink2:

I think he is ranking them just as I ranked my top 10 national teams in that thread I started a few months ago. It is based on what success you have had recently, recent recruiting classes, stability in the coaching staff and the overall ability to win in the near future. I think he has it about right since I think Florida might be a 1 year wonder (no great seasons other than 06). If Bama had gone 8-4 or 9-3, I think he would have easily put Bama ahead of Tennessee. Since they didn't, I think it is fair Tennessee remain ahead of them. At the same time, I think Bama's program is healthier now than Arkansas (see unstable coaching staff).

    That makes sense.

As for Florida I am not sure how he said they disappointed last year. They lost their whole defense and had a new QB, who obviously excelled.

Not to mention their whole team basically included freshmen and sophomores.

You're right, it'll be interesting to see how they do this year, they'll be kind of like we were last year, expected to win.

this is well presented. good work.

it took me 2 seconds to deduce this guy was an auburn grad or homer when I saw AU ahead of UF. that makes zero sense.

swap those 2 and i dont have a problem.

This is the same Marshall that said that Tubs could sit back in his office and answer the phone for the in-state talent last year. We saw how that worked out.

I give Phil hell every time I talk to him about his bias. You don't want to see it. Fine.

The same way some will say LSU disappoints if they do not repeat. Casual constituents crave consistency.
