Titans owner Bud Adams wants Peyton Manning ... Adams told The Tennessean on Sunday that he has contacted Manning’s agent, Tom Condon, and is pushing for the quarterback to visit the Titans. “He is the man I want. Period,” Adams said by phone from Houston. “And the people that work for me understand that. They know who I want. I want Mr. Manning with the Titans and I will be disappointed if it doesn’t happen.” ... “I hope to be one of the teams he looks at,” said Adams, 89. “Since he went to school in Tennessee, I think Tennessee is where he should be. I think he could play for two or three years. I think he’s the guy that could come in and turn this around for us. “That’s why I am so anxious to get him to come visit with us and I want him on my team. I could sit down with him and show him what (we’d be willing to pay). If he would come (meet) with me he would be happy with what he’d get.” he also said he'd be "upset" if he didn't get Manning, and he said he's offering Manning a job "for as long as he lives," be it as QB or a front office executive
a Florida newspaper just published this: "Despite reports to the contrary, the Dolphins consider themselves still in the running for Peyton Manning, a source said Monday afternoon."
I believe Manning will be in Tempe after everything is done. Indoor stadium, Wisenhunt being an offensive minded players coach, and having Larry Fitzgerald and possible Reggie Wayne to throw to are all good reasons. I wonder what happens to Kolb and/or Skelton should this happen. Would Kolb warrant a draft pick, or trade if so? I would think the Cards would want to beef up their oline a little. <---- really liking tiger fan's avatar.:thumb: really nice shirt.
per ESPN sources: 12 teams have engaged Manning in discussions and there have been clandestine talks with one or two of those franchises, according to sources. he plans to meet with the Dolphins and Titans in the coming days, though he won't visit the teams' respective facilities in Davie, Fla., or Nashville. Manning is likely to talk with new Miami HC Joe Philbin tonight or Tuesday morning. Tennessee HC Mike Munchak could get a meeting Wednesday. The Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs have failed in their attempts to get Manning to visit their facilities and are no longer considered contenders for the quarterback, sources said.
ESPN had some interesting notes on Manning with Arizona and Denver... His existing relationships with John Elway and Denver coach John Fox, as well as that with Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt provided a comfort level for Manning to make his first visits to those franchises, according to sources. Manning and Whisenhunt became familiar with each other during a Pro Bowl when Whisenhunt was offensive coordinator of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a friendship grew from that experience. Both sides engaged in extensive football discussions, including film study, an evaluation of the current roster, as well as organizational discussions related to the salary cap, sources said. Manning also had the opportunity to speak with both teams' owners and top executives and other select members of the coaching staffs. Cardinals All-Pro receiver Larry Fitzgerald was present at a dinner Saturday night hosted at the home of Whisenhunt and during a portion of the meetings at the team's facility Sunday, per sources.
Peyton also mentioned that he would prefer to remain in the AFC. But playing in the NFC West division as weak as it is, must be pretty tempting. The 49ers are the only tough opponent in the division right now.
Mike Klis of the Denver Post: "The Texans recently inquired about Manning," Klis wrote. "The Texans might be considered the Broncos' biggest threat. Like the Broncos, Houston is an AFC team. Unlike the Broncos, the Texans currently have the pieces in place to be considered a Super Bowl-contending team."
Broncos -- the Denver Post reported an hour ago that "According to multiple NFL sources, Manning has the Broncos among his top two choices. He likes that coach John Fox will give him carte blanche of the offense and he believes Colorado would give him a quality of life for his wife Ashley and twins, who will turn 1 on March 31." Dolphins -- their coach, offensive coordinator, and others flew to Indianapolis for a meeting with Manning yesterday. ESPN reported it was a "good meeting" and lasted between five and six hours. the Miami paper reported it was "a football-intensive discussion, without bells and whistles." Manning apparently feels no urgency to see the Dolphins’ facility because he has been there during preparations for the Colts’ two Super Bowl appearances at Sun Life Stadium. the Dolphins still believe they are very much in the running for Manning, two sources told the Miami paper. the Dolphins also just traded WR Brandon Marshall, which some thought would have helped them get Manning (because Marshall is a head case, "high-maintenance", hard on QBs, etc), but the Denver Post reports that "The Miami Dolphins may not have helped themselves by trading receiver Brandon Marshall on Tuesday. Manning, according to NFL sources, had enough people vouch for the troubled, but talented receiver that he had considered Marshall a Dolphins' asset." ... but, the sportswriter for the Orlando paper just wrote that the decision to trade Marshall was "such an awful deal, the only way it makes sense is if it was necessary to get Manning. ... That's the way Marshall's trade makes sense. The only way, really. The Dolphins just sent a Pro Bowl receiver and his relatively paltry $5.8 million salary in 2012 to Chicago for two third-round picks.") Titans -- Manning will meet with them tomorrow, a league source told NFL Network. their head coach is an old friend of Archie Manning (the two played together on the Oilers). also, the Titans are recruiting 5-time All-Pro guard Steve Hutchinson, a Manning friend, as well (he flew into Nashville today for a meeting at the Titans headquarters). also, the Titans just hired Dennis Polian, son of former Colts general manager Bill Polian. Manning already knows the Titans’ facility, having practiced against Tennessee a few years ago when the Colts came to town for some joint practices. Also, Peyton's wife is from Memphis, Tennessee Redskins -- just signed Pierre Garcon, but the Redskins, who have the #2 overall pick in the draft, are expected to take either Luck or RGIII
the Denver Post reported yesterday that Manning has narrowed it down between the Broncos and Titans -- a stance seconded later in the day by former Colts GM Bill Polian on ESPN.
Titans -- Manning was picked up on the private plane of Tennessee Titans' owner Bud Adams, and flown to Nashville, Tennessee for a meeting. on the plane were Titans head coach Mike Munchak, general manager Ruston Webster and chief operating officer Mike Reinfeldt. the plane landed in Nashville at 2pm and by 2:30, Manning was spotted entering the Titans training facility. Manning is expected to stay at facility the rest of the day and evening Broncos -- the only player to ever wear No. 18 for the Denver Broncos wants to make the jersey available again for Peyton Manning. Frank Tripucka wore that number for three seasons in the 1960s, when he was the first quarterback in club history (during those 3 seasons, he became the first pro QB to have a 3,000-yard season, he was an AFL All-Star, and he threw the 1st TD in AFL history). After his tenure, the number was ceremonially retired. But Tripucka is just fine with breaking it out of storage. The 84-year-old Tripucka said in a phone interview that if Manning wants that number, "He should have it. Let's give it to him."
