The Shreveport Times reported today that NSU will pay Peveto a base salary of $106,000, not including bonuses.
Re: Peveto to NW Cali, you could not be further from the truth with me and food. I absolutely LOVE food--just, apparently, none of the foods you happen to like. Or maybe you eat anything put in front of you, while I have more discriminating tastes?
From Glenn Guilbeau's article today: LSU players will miss the Peveto spirit. "He's a very exciting coach to play for," said senior middle linebacker Darry Beckwith, who played his entire career for Peveto. "He gets you up. He's just a hilarious guy, and he makes it fun. He's also a guy you can count on and go talk to. He'll make a great head coach."
Now...but...I thought that Peveto was lousy in every aspect of the game? I thought he lacked intensity?
Pffft they don't need spirit, they have cheerleaders for that. What they need is a coach that can teach his position. I definitely believe his leaving is good for LSU.
LSU blog, And The Valley Shook, expressed disappointment in the loss of Peveto today: While Peveto may or may not have contributed to the problems the defense had (it is disputed how much responsibility he really as a co-coordinator), we should be very clear that Peveto was an excellent linebacker coach and recruiter. He was, in fact, one of Miles' primary recruiters along with running backs coach Larry Porter. This year alone, Bradley Dale Peveto was responsible for the recruitment of 5-star commitment Janzen Jackson, 4-star commitments Drayton Calhoun and Michael Brockers, and 3-star [now 4-star] commitment Kevin Minter. Three of those guys are out-of-state recruits, and Peveto has a lot of success in that avenue. He was particularly effective in recruiting Georgia and Texas. For what it's worth, I think losing Peveto as a recruiter and a linebackers coach is a big blow to us. Even with the expected changes in the coordinator position, I would have liked to keep Peveto on as position coach. Players and recruits love him.
Thats why he's the head coach and we're just fans. That information is for him to know and us to find out when he is damn good and ready. Then is when he will let all of us know who he has chosen for his "Damn Strong DC and Defensive Coaching assts."
I was quite tough on him during the season, but what he said in the article was damn respectful. Good luck to him at NWSU, except when they play LSU.
Thanks, JohnLSU, for posting so much information about all of this. I think you made some excellent points about BDPs contributions, his tact, respectfulness, and class. Ultimately, it is best for him and LSU to part ways, but sometimes we get so caught up in our perceptions of "the problems" that we lose site of other contributions someone like BDP makes. Kudos for enlightening us all about this, and about Nach. (I've actually only driven through briefly - it looks like a nice town with great charm). I now have a much more postive viewpoint of him, will likely pay a little more attention to NLU and hope for success for him.
Per the Advocate today: Sam Goodwin, head coach of NSU for 17 years, winningest coach in NSU and Southland Conference history, and head coach of NSU when Peveto worked for him said this about Peveto: “Bradley will do a great job ... He’s just intense from daylight to dark. He’s one of those coaches who’s up at 4 in the morning and he’s coaching until he’s exhausted. He’s as good a recruiter as you’d find anywhere.” When Goodwin and Peveto worked together, Goodwin said he would show up at the coaches’ office before daybreak and find Peveto already there “already on his second or third cup of coffee.” “The thing that always stuck out in my mind about Bradley Dale is that what he took to the field as a coach was exactly the kind of intensity you want your players to bring,” Goodwin said. “They see him working that hard and caring that much and that affects them. I think he relates as well to kids as any coach I’ve ever been around, and they’ll fight tooth and nail for him because he’s such a good motivator.” “I always knew Bradley Dale would be a head coach someday because he had all the qualities, and I wondered if he might come back to Northwestern when he got the chance,” Goodwin said. “I just think this is a perfect fit.” http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/36483854.html
