Obviously our defense this year left a lot to be desired and a change had to be made. That said, Brad DP recruited some great players and was a part of LSU's 3rd national championship. While our new DC remains to be seen, Miles handled the departure of BDP and probably Mallory, with class. That matters in a business that is so small and where reputation travels fast.
for whatever reason I just dont think chavis is even a consideration for miles. I believe the younger type, walker rumors but thats just based on my feel. chavis hasnt played press coverage since before the turn of the century.
It will be very interesting to see if Miles takes a chance on a young buck like Walker vs a known commodity like Chavis.
also, if they go onto success, they will continue to have les in the resume's as their mentor as opposed to being formally canned and possibly hold some ill-will. a good reason why you dont burn bridges unless you have to. and if they fail in their new positions, those ex-assistants will be more likely to return in another role.
I think Miles knows that the defensive scheme needs to change. And it won't if he brings in Chavis. Whoever Miles gets, i hope he brings an aggressive, attacking scheme with him.
God Bless Peveto: "I was responsible for that [2008 LSU] defense and we didn’t play as well as we should have," Peveto said. "I should have coached it better and gotten our guys better prepared. That’s the bottom line." "The bottom line is to win football games, and our job on defense was to stop the other team from scoring more than we did. We didn’t do that well enough five times this season and I take that responsibility on my shoulders. There are no excuses." "I leave here proud of how the defensive kids worked and how hard the defensive staff worked. We didn’t get the results we wanted, but I thought we worked our tails off and the kids worked hard and had great effort." "I love the Tiger fans and truly believe everything about LSU is the best there is in college football," Peveto said. "I'm so grateful for my stay here and the opportunity Coach Miles gave me four years ago. Because if he doesn’t give me this chance, I’m not standing where I am today." LB Kelvin Sheppard: "Coach Peve was the kind of coach you would dream of having," Sheppard said. "If you ever needed anything, if anything ever happens, he’s the first one there." A memory that sticks out most? Peveto taping his ankles along with the Tigers players when they were preparing to take the field against No. 1-ranked Alabama in November. "I just wanted them to know I was right there with them and would do anything I could to make sure they were ready for the challenge," Peveto said Thursday. Peveto on the new chapter in his life: "This is a very exciting day for me and my family because I have always dreamed about being a head football coach," Peveto said. "In this business, jobs are hard to get. Interviews are hard to get." "Having coached [at NSU] before, love the university, I love the people and it’s a great place to raise my kids. It’s a place that has been home for me before and I can’t wait to get up there and get started." NSU Atheltic Director Greg Burke: "[Peveto] fit the criteria for what we had established in terms of the qualities we thought were important for our next head coach to have," Burke said. "Brad was successful here before, and on a personal level, he and his wife Melissa were so well received here in the community." http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/36424539.html
I wish BDP all the luck in the world, but I'm glad to see him go or more specifically - I'm glad to see the co-coordinator go. It's unfortunate in a way because more than likely if he hadn't been part of this expirement he wouldn't be leaving town. At any rate good luck at NW coach Peve.
