Defense is the reason why LSU stayed alive in this game. You guys remember a year ago when Georgia hung 52 on us? Haha wow. The Dawgs had 0 going into the 4th quarter this year.. AT HOME. Very nice. The defense played with heart for 4 quarters today, something we haven't seen since 2007. (with an exception against Bama in '08). They were quick to the ball, hard hitting, explosive, and energetic. Now that makes for some fun football! Geaux Tigers and congrats to the Bayou Boys.
Green is really good but maybe his greatest attribute is his ability to push off and not get flagged. Did you see the pregame highlights? They showed Green making 5 big catches and on 4 of the 5 he was open only because he pushed off. If other WR's were allowed to push off as much as Green everyone would be open. Peterson is a beast and should only get better with time.
I'm happy with the D play this week, but now you give them too much credit. They were not as bad as the bashing they have taken on this board in weeks 1-4, nor as great as you imply they were this week, when compared to last years game with Ga. This Ga. team is playing WITHOUT Stafford (top pick in the NFL) and Moreno. Joe Cox sucks as a QB. Remember that. Ga. offense beat themselves over and over. They are where we were last season, weak at QB (the most important position on the team), except I'd take Jarrett Lee in a heartbeat over Joe Cox. The D played its best game, they seem to be learning the system and growing in confidence. That's good. This years Ga. team is not close to last years in offensive effectiveness, and that is also a major reason they did not score as many points on our D this year. Let's try to remain objective.
You are overrating Jackson quit a bit. Hookfin his senior year as just as good as Jackson was, and neither one of them are in the league of Webster and Peterson. I'd say Daniels was about as good as Jackson, as well.
Well they did put up 41pts on South Carolina a pretty good defensive football team. They also hung 52 on Arkansas. Joe Cox sucks no doubt, but they aren't as bad an offensive team as you making them out to be. The LSU D played pretty damn good except for a couple blown coverages and the one scoring drive where they played prevent D the entire time. I'd really like to see what Chavis could do with a D that can get any pressure at all out of the front 4.
I'm guessing that Chief thought Cox could not beat LSU passing, so he didn't blitz him, played it safe in coverage. Against a better QB, who can pick you apart if you give him time, he may have had to take a chance and blitz more. We'll see. You make a good point about S. Car. and Arky, I think S. Car. is a good team, Arky not so much.
I think we should consider ourselves extremely lucky that Peterson decided to not go to the U and came here instead. I like Chris Hawkins and our other corners overall, but we would have no chance against the likes of AJ Green and Julio Jones without Peterson. He seems destined for stardom. Porbably the highest praise for him is Sarkisian saying that Peterson was the best player he EVER saw at some USC camp... consider how many 5 star recruits probably go to those USC camps and that tells you a lot about how highly regarded Peterson was in high school. And that talent has definitely transferred over to the college level.
I think PP did a very good job. I think he put a little too much pressure on himself. That's why he got burned on that one Cox missed, and he gave up that long play late in the game that lead to the Green touchdown, but that might've been more the safeties fault than his. I just thought Peterson made the wrong decision there, but even the great ones make a mistake here and there, and Peterson is a great one. He has a very good shot at being an All American this year. As far as Green goes, I really believe he's better than Julio. Julio has a size advantage but Green is faster and I think he attacks the ball better than Julio. He's already great at the subtle things like pushing off and not getting caught. Even the TD pass he caught, he got the advantage over Hawkins' perfect coverage by pushing off his shoulders for leverage. That kept Hawkins from getting a better jump and one more inch makes that a broken play. But I'm glad it happened because if it hadn't Chuck wouldn't have been the hero...and we needed Chuck to break it before the Fla. game.
