Peterson traded to the Cardinals for an undisclosed, conditional draft pick. Good. Get that bad contract off the books. Get that potential locker room cancer off the club.
And Sean Payton is pretty petty. You knew that was gonna happen after game one. What's the conditions. Can we get a 3rd rounder or what.
Don't know what the back-story is but a big part of why I quit watching the No Fun League long ago. All about contracts and shit. When the game becomes a job, it changes a lot of things.
All the analysts are opining how Peterson wasn't a good fit. Bullchit. Payton refused to use him because Peterson had a desire to play often....and Payton's ego could never get over being stared or glared at on national TV. The Saints are worse off without him. What happens when Ingram gets hurt? Payton's ego cost Bendon 2.8 million dollars.
Or maybe AP (ad) was a problem because he wanted more playing time. We can't be sure but it's plausible. And if he was Payton did the right thing. I'm sure his pettiness made the decision easier even if so.
Payton has a running back formula. It was at its optimum in the Super Bowl season with PT as the workhorse, Bush as the swingman, and Bell in reserve. Now he's got Ingram in the PT role and Kamara in the Bush role. APete was never going to be the reserve guy. He came in led to believe he was at least going to get equal billing with Ingram, but that was never going to happen. Now we can bring Lasco off the practice squad and get him into that 3rd back role, and also add him to special teams. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people if he ever gets a chance to play. Peterson can go prove he can still be the man in AZ.
Why would Peterson sign with the Saints if he wanted to be the featured RB? Mike Detillier said it was his only offer. Translation: Mickey Loomis was the only GM dumb enough to give him twice the money anybody else would offer for a 32 year old with a history of knee injuries.
