There were too many this game... gave me brief flashbacks from the Bama game. Suppose they'll rank them preseason #3 after they tear the wrapping off this bowl trophy.
i've seen it called before, but that was a bad interpretation of the rule. normally it is when a guy is getting pushed over onto his keyster and the ball hits him. this time, it looked more like the USC guy was doing the pushing (especially since he was moving forward).
see i have seen the kick catch interference, or roughing the kicker or running into the kicker called off because someone was being blocked into them, but the USC guy kicked the ball while engaged. Wow, what a crappy call. Pete Carroll sucks, i hope he is happy with his Emerald Nut trophy over the worst decent ACC team.
oh, I agree it was a crappy call. just saying that i have seen it called before. and like i said, normally it is a guy who is getting shoved around pretty good. the USC guy was engaged, but seemed to be winning the battle (i.e. looked more like he was doing the blocking rather than being blocked). One I remember well (though don't remember who was playing). the gunner was engaged by 2 blockers near the sideline. dude got tossed to groud like a rag doll, and the ball bounced off his helmet at almost exact time he hit the ground. ball bounced toward middle of field (would have probably went out of bounds if not for guy's head). kicking team recovered, but officials ruled guy was blocked into ball. return team get possession at point of recovery.
