Apparently Author Blank is requesting to speak with Carroll. This is a report from ESPiN so take it for what it is. Could the golden days of USC present be over? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3188045 :milesmic: :LSU231: :geauxtige :crystal: :crystal: :crystal:
Arthur Blank has got to be the dumbest owner in sports...He just got screwed by a college coach and wants to go after another one.
Let's hope PC stays at USC long enough for us to finally play them in a championship game. THEN, he bolt for the NFL.
He doesn't need to talk to anyone, he made that move years ago and came back with his tail between his legs. He is very happy at USC where he can recruit some of the best classes in the country and be the brightest star in the PAC1.....make that the only star.
An NFL return for Carroll would make zero sense to me. Regardless of what you think about him he has been very good at USC while his tenure in the NFL was mediocre at best (33-31 overall, going 6-10, 10-6, 9-7, and 8-8). Hes paid alot of money at USC, is given loads of glory, and has success there. I would honestly be baffled if he left, but thats just me.
He would be dumb to go to the NFL. He has never won without a very high level of talent in the college level. USC has gotten amazing recruiting classes and turned them into Rose Bowl seasons but not championships most years. At the pro level he will have to play the role of underdog and his recruiting ability will be irrelevent. USC is the perfect fit for him and he will have a very hard time if he leaves.
Sounds like they're putting forth the "full court press" by offering Carroll the job with complete control over personnel. I still think he would be foolish to leave his current gig at USC. The guy hasn't had any real consistent competition in the PAC-10. He has a national recruiting pool, with superstar athletes who want to go play for him out in sunny southern California. Things like that will keep his program top notch for years to come. On the other hand, the pull to coach in the 'Big Boys' league might be strong. Still, I would be surprised to see Pete Carroll leave USC any time soon.
