If Pete Caroll was pissed that he Bryant kicked it after the timeout, I wonder what he would have done had he Bryant ran out and kicked one real quick during the timeout like Justin Tucker did for the Ravens vs. Denver the other day in double OT. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/13/ravens-practice-kick-justin-tucker_n_2465667.html I like this kid though, he has been money this year, he was clutch for Texas also.
We played them in baseball one year, Central of Baton Rouge, and anyone who's ever played there knows there is a street behind the fence and some houses behind the street. Todd crushed a pitch our guy threw to him and the ball sailed into the houses behind the first few of them, it was ridiculous. The guy has been the consummate professional for Atlanta for so many years, and has represented LSU with dignity, and should be commended for it. Doesn't get enough love from Tiger fans, even being born in Baton Rouge, but I think it's because Louisianians just freaking hate the Falcons.
I bet there will be an off-season rule change to address this. The Baltimore kicker should not have been able to run out and get a practice kick. That's like letting a team go out and do a practice hail mary before they throw the real one. And as much as I despise Atlanta, Carroll was right to be pissed. Watch there be a 5-yard penalty next year for doing that.
What does he know about field goals- he's from the PAC. They don't kick any field goals cause they score touchdowns every time being there's no defense. Now THAT is a good ploy. Had never heard/seen that.
That ploy seems to fail a lot, I can recall several time out misses, retry win. I love it. It is a bushleague, BS manuever and there is very little likelihood of getting the intended result. No one ever said football coaches had to be smart!
He should have called the timeout while running onto the field and blocked the kick. That would have been awesome.
Did anyone else notice Flynn consoling Russell Wilson on the sidelines just before and after the winning field goal? It was nice to see Flynn, even if it wasn't on the field. They say that Russell Wilson is quite the fighter. But, that really got him down. Just found it a bit interesting that Flynn was the teammate to put his arm around Russell and cheer him up.
Great guy, I remember one guy telling me that in this day and time, Todd wouldn't get an offer from LSU. I asked a college coaching friend of mine, his reply, "I'd sign 2-3 Todd McClure's if I could, every year.." The guy could have played a number of positions. Remember Todd was drafted in the 7th round. He played football, baseball and basketball at Central. During training camp of his rookie season he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and missed the entire season. During his second season he took over as the Falcons starting center. The starting OG went down during the game, they moved the OC over to guard and Todd went in at OC. For the first few years ATL drafted OC, but none could take away his starting position. Ben Wilkerson had a stint up in ATL before coming to LSU as a GA.
The Big Ragoo is my only reason for watching them too. Amazing where he is and where he started as a like 7th round pick or something like that. Must have knees of granite................now.
Kind of reminds you of Les! They both win allot, but they do some of the stupidest things to keep from winning championships.
