I don't think I've ever seen it where the timeout actually ices the kicker. These coaches do outsmart themselves sometimes. Would have really been something if the Falcons lost. Instead, they barely avoided what would have been an epic collapse.
It worked for Jason Garrett. Except he iced his own kicker, so.... You make the call. You know everyone wants to dog Les Miles, and he deserves criticism for the offense, no doubt, but in my opinion, no coach squandered more talent than Pete Carroll. No reason he shouldn't have been undefeated every year and in the national championship game. He would lose to 50 point underdogs, I don't recall Les doing that.
I like ATL for one reason only, Todd McClure, I'd like to see him get into the Super Bowl. Hes spent too many years in the NFL, with the same team.
You definitely have a point. And for some reason, he was never vilified for it like Les. In fact, he's probably still revered at USC, even though he's soley responsible for running that program into the ground with all of the sanctions.
It's ok if they make it, as long as they don't win it. As a Saints fan, NOTHING would suck worse than ATL winning it in our house.
Love it when an arrogant coach like Pete Carroll or Urban Meyer pulls a bush-league maneuver and then is forced to gag on their own mistake
To me it appeared all the players, including Bryant, heard the whistle and knew the play didn't count. Bryant hesitated slightly before kicking it, which made him push it right. I thought it looked like Carroll was pissed that he kicked it.
That is what he was pissed about, but he's still a moron for not knowing that would happen. It probably should be a 5yrd delay of game penalty, but as long as coaches are going to be dumb enough to do it, let them. Sean Payton did the same thing in 2010. Bryant missed the OT kick on the first try, then nailed it on the 2nd.
