Mark Reicht has been recruiting very well and averaging 9 or 10 wins per season. He has no crystal footballs. And UGA is 6-5 this year. (they have QB issues) Pete Carroll can recruit a top 10 class without taking a single airline flight. Yet USC has lost to mediocre teams they should crush each of the last 3-4 years. (they have QB problems). Bob Stoops recruits with the best of them but is having one of the worst years in recent Sooner memory. (they have QB problems). Then there are programs like Notre Dame, Miami, Florida State, Ohio State, Auburn, Michigan. All with high profile coaches and rich football histories. None of whom are in the hunt for the crystal. This season has gone almost EXACTLY like most soberfans and commentators thought it would. For the exact reasons mostsaid it would go that way. So, as the Tigers suit up for the last home game of the season, explain to me again how it is at all rational to be calling for firing one of the most successful head coaches in the country and in LSU history? Regardless of the outcome of this football game or the bowl game, Les Miles should stay at LSU and continue to build on the amazing record of success started by Nick Saban.
After today's game, it will be interesting to see how this thread goes. Personally, I can certainly see improvement this year on defense and special teams, but I never dreamt that the offense would be as bad as it is. All through CLM tenure, I have asked myself, "How does one judge a good head coach?" If it's by how he publicly speaks, than we have a terrible coach, but I have tempered my first perspective with CLM's record (both W/L and recruiting) thinking that there is much more to a coach than how he speaks and behaves on the sideline. Last year, I was hopeful that it would be the year the CLM proved all the critics wrong. This year, I thought the same. Next year, I'll again think the same, but there sure is a lot more doubt right now than ever before. I sure am looking forward to a good LSU victory tonight.
Good post. I would like to add that in the scheme of things, last weeks loss is meaningless. With Ole Myth getting embarassed at Miss St (again) today, after we beat the pigs tonight, we will go to the Cap One, and have a shot at a ten win season with a top ten finish. It's just like I always say, a loss is nothing that a win won't correct! Geaux Tigers!
Bandit, That's a great post, very good big picture perspective. Miles is not a good clock manager and it did not cost him a game until OM. I think he has learned and will work in the offseason (and hopefully through the week) to do a better job preparing for the last minute of the half and the game. LSU has had issues at QB (too inexperienced) last season and this season. We were not going to compete for championships. This season was a big improvement from last season, no blowouts on the D, but some regression on the O. I predicted 9-3, with a better shot at 10-2 than 8-4 (counting on some JJ upside from the bowl to be seen in the regular season, that largely didn't happen). Miles job is not and should not be in question.
A very good, rational post. Of course, our emotions are not very rational nor is our allegiance to 11 guys running and passing an odd shaped ball around. hwr
I think this is a very good argument. And I am on the other side. However, there are two types of people in the world. Those that get the car fixed at first sign of a problem, and those that wait until it won't run at all. I don't see this one working itself out. We need to be proactive here. Be honest, for 2 million how many better coaches do you think we can get? I say there are at least 100 of them out there for half price. Now for what we are paying Les, we could get a better HC, and a HC level OC. But again, all your points are valid, they are just based on different views than I have.
This has nothing to do with this thread, but why does everyone try to pay a little more, and a little more for a head coach. They should earn it. A Bonus for winning this or that, should only be that. A bonus. Not added to next year and beyond JMHO
