it is not the government that protects us directly. it is choice. the governments job is to make sure we dont lose our freedom to choose. if, for example your boss was enslaving you, taking your freedom, thats when the government helps. else you are always safe, because you have the choice to find a better employer.

lasalle, if you can only remember one thing, remember this: freedom of choice is what protects you, not the government.

Company owners have risk far greater than the worker. Thus while they reap the benefits just as much as they reap the failures.

Except the Chinese govt. is supressing their currency, and a host of other unfair trade practices, keeping prices and wages low. It's not as simple as you make it sound, an average manufacturing supervisor in China makes about 7,500 a year.

Meanwhile, median CEO income increased 27% last year, while employee pay has stagnated.

I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY SO MANY ON HERE KISS THE ASS OF CEO'S AND BOARD MEMEBERS WHO WOULDN'T PISS ON THEM IF THEY WERE ON FIRE.

Luvdim, John Steinbeck said it perfectly...

“Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”

Eric Cantor Needs A Civics Lesson « CBS Seattle

Ridiculous. They think they can do anything. Anthony Wiener made Cantor look like a stupid little bitch though...

I have a few questions lasalle. If all of the spending continues what do you think will happen? There isn't enough rich people to pay for all the spending now. Do you raise taxes on business to pay for the spending? What do you think that will do to their ability to create jobs or stay competitive in the global marketplace? The steel industry is dead. The auto industry would be too if not for government intervention. How many more industries can we afford to lose?
We can come to a compromise to fix this. Spend less on entitlements and handouts and repeal all tax loopholes. The left has their tax givaways to renewable energy such as to ge for windmills and farmers for ethonol. The reps give to oil corps to promote drilling and refineries in America. Both parties are on equal terms on the givaways to their favorites. Make it to where all business pays a flat rate with no ifs ands or buts. Also cut all spending. If we don't our dollar will collapse and inflation will destroy this country for us all.

Nonsense. There are more of the ultra-rich every year. The system is stacked for them to get richer and pull away even further from the middle class. They are loaded, paying fewer taxes than before, and there are plenty of them.

Taxes didn't kill these industries. Labor unions and over-merged, huge multinational corporations shipped them overseas to raise corporate and stockholder profits at the expense of America's loss of industrial capability and loss of the tax revenue which goes instead to Korea, China, etc.

Easy to say, harder to do. Worse, its not going to bring back those overseas factories and the jobs that were lost.

What cuts to social security, medicare, and defense do you propose? Those are the big three.

I agree that we spend too much. I think we can hit medicare/medicaid with cuts, cuts that eliminate waste. Not something that will eliminate medicare/medicaid entirely. I also think the defense budget should be cut by about 75%. I also think Marijuana should be legalized across the board, and taxed. I think we should de-fund the DEA, and I think the corporate tax rate should be lowered to 20% and all of the loopholes should be closed. I also believe that the Bush tax cuts should end. I think it's time for the people who have benefited the most in the past 10 years to nut up, and cough it up. Those people would be the top 2%. End all subsidies to oil companies, unless they are doing research and development on renewable energy, and making progress. Not just have some shell warehouse somewhere that's empty that is supposed to be the R&D department. I do not think businesses that turn billions of dollars of profits should be exempt from paying taxes. I also think all tax havens should be eliminated, and if you want to move to a tax haven, you can't do business in the United States.
