Jacksonville State University - JSU's Ryan Perrilloux Named to Walter Payton Award Watch List They open against Ga. Tech, maybe on TV?
Perrilloux suspended for opener Anniston Star - Perrilloux suspended for opener Jacksonville State starting quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will not play in the Gamecocks’ season opener at Georgia Tech Sept. 5. Head football coach Jack Crowe told The Star this morning that Perrilloux is suspended for one game for a violation of team rules. Sophomore Marques Ivory will start at Georgia Tech instead, and Perrilloux will return for the Sept. 12 game at Florida State. Crowe would not describe the incident that led to Perrilloux’s dismissal, but said it happened in the spring. “This is not the result of any legal circumstance and is strictly a violation of the strict guidelines he came here under,” Crowe said. “We have not made any different sets of rules for Ryan. He has the same consequences as anyone of our players and there is very little room for error. I do not think this is a reflection of his accountability since he has been here. Our fans do not need to assume it is more than it is, which is a team rule.” Crowe said the incident had nothing to do with an appearance by Perrilloux in the spring before a student disciplinary board. Crowe said he wondered if the incident that led to the quarterback’s suspension would have earned him a similar punishment at any other school on the Gamecocks’ schedule. Asked if Perrilloux had failed a drug test, Crowe would not say if he had or hadn’t. He declined to make Perrilloux available for an interview. Ivory also was not immediately available for an interview.
