It has EVERYTHING to do with it. As the team leader, the youngsters are watching your every move on and off the field. They are watching you to see what it takes to get to your level. The LAST thing LSU needs is to have half the team thinking "I can break these MINOR laws and team rules, and still play". When that mindset hits the team, you end up with what DiNardo had his last few years. Guys cutting classes, purse snatching, serial cuddling, etc. etc.
Thank you. I understand he's the QB on the National Championship LSU tigers team. But some people on here forget that he is a college student and hasn't done anything that most typical college students haven't. I don't think RP is a thug, and he will mature like most typical college students do. Since I don't know him personally, I don't see how I, or anybody who doesn't know him personally, can doubt that.
 No, LVT...this was under the Alley Broussard thread. I haven't posted in this thread up until now. Go get that second cup of coffee, brother!:hihi:
Here's the problem with that logic. If you assume most typical college students have done the same things, then why aren't more LSU athletes in trouble? 85 scholarship football players and over 400 on campus, but very few (less than 10%?) get in trouble once, much less twice and three times. What is it about the vast majority of football players that makes them different from most typical college students and RP? Were Dorsey, Flynn, Hester, etc., just lucky they weren't caught?
They had better judgment. That's why they are captains and team leaders as seniors. They realized the role they were in earlier than RP did and could deal with it. And don't act like all other LSU athletes are angels just because you don't hear about them getting in trouble. Trindon must be a thug too since he was suspended for part of the Sugar Bowl last year. Another player was also suspended with him but I can't even remember who it was. I'm sure it was another thug though. We are acting like RP is a purse snatcher or a peeping tom. It's kind of ridiculous. Edit: I forgot about Chris Mitchell. Wasn't he questioned about a club shooting? Why aren't we all over his jock. Oh that's right, he isn't important.
They had better judgment since day one, as do most of the athletes who step foot on campus. Well, that is why I said "less than 10%?" in my post. But you didn't answer the question as to why the vast majority don't get in any trouble. Strange, I don't see anyone using the word thug except those who are defending him. We have every right to question his judgment and maturity because of his history. You don't like it, so you insert the thug word. You are better than that.
How do you know this? Are you just guessing. Again. How do you know this? Because you don't hear about it? Perhaps I shouldn't have said most typical college students because you seem to be hinging on that statement a little. I guess I should have said RP's indiscretions are no different than that of your typical college student who may get into trouble on occasion. Fake I.D. Bar fight. Stereotypical college trouble. I agree. I almost changed it to something else but it was taking too long to think of something. I already tried typical college student and that didn't fly. I guess he is just a troubled young man.
No...he has just made some poor decisions, that's all. It doesn't make him a "thug"...or even a "troubled young man". And yes...it IS different for him because of his position on the team. He is expected to LEAD...that's kind of a prerequisite for a QB on a premier football program. He is more in the spotlight due to his position on the team...and the fact that HE put himself more in the spotlight by OVER hyping himself during his recruitment. He just needs to grow up...mature...and I for one believe he will...and he will lead. But like I have said before, he has EARNED his current rep...and he will have to EARN respect in order to become a leader.
I know that. And I made sure to point that out in my initial post on this subject. I agree. Just like some college student do. And I have faith he will. Most college students have to earn the respect of their parents if they goof up. He has to earn the respect of his teammates, coaches and the fans. The first two are the only I'm worried about to be honest. Because even if he goes on to do great things at LSU he will always be remembers as the guy who almost screwed it up for himself as far as the fans go.
JohnLSU, just need to straighten out some of your facts. The counterfeiting issue was months before the Casino incident. Also, it was not a fake ID but it was his brother's ID. His brother was the one who was the main suspect in the counterfeiting allegation.
