Yes, I've read a lot of anti-RP threads on here whining because he's not Mother Teresa. But I don't get it. Nobody on LSU's team is anywhere close to being Mother Teresa (if they were, they would quit football and 100% devote their lives to helping the poor). To me, being a leader in the "model citizen" or "model Christian" aspect doesn't have that much to do with the world of sports. I played sports. Most of the leaders on the best teams I was a part of were not "model citizens" or "model Christians." It's sports, not the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, the "bad boy" role is pretty cool in the world of sports, especially football, and especially when it comes to the team leaders. Thus the "jock" stereotype. To me, the most important leadership aspect that matters in sports is being a leader on the field, being valuable on the field, and that's what RP did by winning MVP of the SEC Championship Game. Off-the-field "model citizen" or "model Christian" issues aren't that big of a deal to me, unless the player is engaging in some sort of drastic misbehavior that would be absolutely unacceptable for any college student (like Cecil Collins). From what I know of RP, he hasn't done anything that I didn't do in college, or that President Bush didn't do in college, or many other college students for that matter. They are just kids playing football, not future Secretary-Generals of the United Nations. And, unlike President Bush or myself, who weren't major athletes at a major college program, RP and the rest of the LSU team live a very strict, regimented life compared to that of your typical college student in the USA. Anyone who can make it through that strict of a life without getting kicked off the team by the coaches (and trust me, they will kick you off the team if you don't live up to the strict life they expect of you) is not someone who anybody should be complaining about when it comes to off-the-field "leadership" issues.
Not really. Being a leader involves not only "On the field" behavior- there's nothing RP has done on the field that anyone is questioning, right? If it wasn't for "Off the field" incidents, we wouldn't be having this conversation. In a recent interview, RP has even acknowledged this fact and spoke of Flynn as being a leader both on and off of the field, which was "What a leader is", in his words. He, RP, is saying the right things and I hope it's really cause he understands/embraces their importance. I think he's matured a lot and will be okay.
You're not paying attention to some on this forum. He has done nothing wrong, nothing none of us didn't do at that age. Miles is just a big meanie for suspending him for doing nothing wrong.
I thought it was common knowledge to Tiger Nation that RP is the best shot LSU has of our first QB winning a Heisman vote since Bert Jones. Even back when he was a high school recruit, national talking heads were talking about RP being a future Heisman candidate (I remember one predicting that RP should "dust off the shelf for two Heisman trophies"). Here's a link to an article by Pete Fiutak of College Football News, titled "2008 Top 25 Heisman Contenders." Regarding QB's, his list is: 1. Tim Tebow (Florida) 2. Pat White (WV) 3. Sam Bradford (Oklahoma) 4. Chase Daniel (Missouri) 5. Graham Harrell (Texas Tech) 6. Ryan Perrilloux (LSU) 7. Todd Reesing (Kansas) 8. Colt McCoy (Texas) 9. Todd Boeckman (Ohio State) 10. Mitch Mustain/Mark Sanchez (USC) 11. Willie Tuitama (Arizona) 12. Matt Grothe (South Florida) 13. Tyler Graunke (Hawaii) His honorable mentions at QB include Rudy Carpenter (Ariz St), Jimmy Clausen (ND), Jack Locker (Washington), Ryan Mallet (Michigan), Stephen McGee (Texas A&M), Curtis Painter (Purdue), and Juice Williams (Illinois). http://cfn.scout.com/2/708450.html Go around and look up articles dealing with the future Heisman watch. I'd be shocked if you found one that doesn't mention RP of LSU.
Im sure you have been the beacon of hope, leadership, and everything that is good in life. :hihi: And you did not inhale.
And if you pay attention to others on this forum the poor guy is going to eventually live the rest of his life in jail and never take a snap for LSU because he was in a bar fight and tried to get into a Casino with his brothers I.D. And since the bar incident you haven't' heard his name mentioned in anything but a positive light. But some just seem to have it out for him and can't bring themselves to look past his few poor judgment calls. I bet Miles has.
Miles didn't look past his few poor judgment calls. Why do you think he has it out for him? Funny how we keep forgetting it was Miles who disciplined him on more than one occasion, but we aren't suppose to talk about that when discussing RP's future. The pollyanna crowd is alive and well on TF. We all hope he learned from his mistakes and has matured, but to dismiss it as nothing, as many of you have, is foolish.
Consider yourself shocked... '08 Heisman Projections '08 Heisman Projections '08 Heisman Projections There are many more.
So how many games do you think Miles will sit him out to start next season? Miles handled it. Past tense. You get it? What has he done since his suspension that warrants the continued criticism from people? That's my question. Has it out for him? Please elaborate.
