last season against OSU, he got hurt in the game and the back up won the game for them. those #s against USC were mostly when the game was out of reach and the trojan scrubs were in. so, ok, he came through last year against a 9-4 OrSt. 20 pts wins this game for LSU
Ron Musselman's Penn State football/Capital One Bowl chat transcript "JoePanini: Is Daryll Clark especially keyed up for this game? He's had a fine career as the Lions' signal caller, but nothing quite resembling a signature win, and this is his last chance ... Ron Musselman: You are right, this is his last chance to finally win a big game. Clark is schedule to meet with the media here in a few hours and he has said publicly that he isn't worried about his legacy. But on his twitter account, he has expressed dismay with those who say he can't win the big game. The last I looked, there were two losses to Iowa, one to USC and another to Ohio State. Clark's signature win to date, I guess, would be Michigan State a year ago. That is the last ranked team he beat. Former backup Pat Devlin got the win in relief at Ohio State in 2008. I'd rather the guy not have the chip on his shoulder coming into the game. Probably just guarantees he plays lights-out against us in his last NCAA game, with his whole legacy on the line (and Draft hopes). Or you could say that he'll just be so angry that he won't be able to stay calm and composed against us.
Sorry to disagree, but Pat Devlin, Clark's replacement in the OSU game last year never even threw a pass IIRC, he handed the ball off, that's it. (as a note, that kind of role is probably a big part of why Devlin transferred out of PSU). As a result of the fallout of losing our key backup QB, Clark's role as a running QB has been extremely limited this season, which in turn allowed OSU and Iowa's pass rush to tee off on him. As for the Rose Bowl and USC, my impression and recollection is their defense played until the final whistle. Not that Clark is Superman, it's just that his bad performances happen to be in games when our offensive line fails to protect him sufficiently. Even Peyton Manning's games are going to largely be determined by the degree of protection he gets. He CAN deliver the ball under pressure. He can't deliver the ball with a lineman draped all over him.
just a note to our psu visitors/posters. stick around. this is a great board for mature sports discussion. we have a few rival posters that are family here. nice to get your input on this game, and hope y'all will feel free to give us your thoughts on other things, after the game.
RB Evan Royster (4th-year/redshirt junior) --All-Big Ten, second-team All-American (Phil Steele, Athlon Sports). Semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award (best running back in NCAA). --4.42 forty. NFL Draft Scout rates him as the #4 RB available for the 2011 Draft, ahead of Noel Devine, Joe McKnight, etc. According to FFToolbox.com, "If Royster declares [for the 2010 Draft], he is likely a second or third round pick." --CFN's preseason analysis: Daryll Clark will be the one in the hunt for league MVP honors, but it's Royster whose name is being thrown around as a possible top ten overall pick if he decides to come out for the 2010 NFL Draft. He has it all with size, speed, and hands...Royster is a special back with first round draft pick potential...he should be in for a huge year with his combination of speed, power, and toughness...he's one of the nation's elite players. --In high school was Virginia's Gatorade Player of the Year. RB Stephfon Green (3rd-year/redshirt sophomore). Penn State's change-of-pace speedster back. Sub-forty speed (4.32 in the 40). Athlon Sports says he is "Arguably the fastest running back in the nation." #2 in rushing yards for Penn State this season and last season. Averages 25.5 yards per kick-off return this season. Rated the #29 RB available in the 2012 Draft by NFL Draft Scout. CFN: "Stephfon Green is lightning with the ball in his hands and is a terrific No. 2 back. The 5-10, 192-pounder...could be a starter without a problem if anything happened to Royster."
I said ELITE SEC team. :hihi: LSU's only in there once...and it was the game we'll never forget...lost on another blown coverage like most of Saban's losses while at LSU. By the way, at the time, a lot of the SEC teams you're showing weren't elite...and some of 'em never were.
Some have a nickname: Evan "Rolls" Royster. A lot have said that his greatest attribute is his vision, and his patience. If you need an excuse to drink, just take an extra shot if they mention his background playing lacrosse. Another great attribute of Royster is his ability to always fall forward. May not sound like much, but he always seems to get an extra yard or two. It's his lagniappe! Also a pretty reliable receiver.
