maybe psu could recruit only catholics. since they still knowingly send their kids to a similarly scandal-ed institution with a much larger cover-up. and yeah, how the hell can you determine if someone has unquestionable morals. the two above examples of: 1-god's representatives 2-joepa were supposedly at the top of the sacred food chain. yet both involved in possibly the most despicable acts imaginable. ****, id just hire larry flynt at this point.
I can understand that you wouldn't want to take the job, and I'm sure their are millions like you, but I'd take the Penn State job in a heart beat if I was a well-established coach. It's an outstanding football program that deserves to be saved, and I'd love to be the guy that saves it. All the people that had anything to do with Sardusky are going to be fired. The cancer will be rooted. The locker room shower will be demolished and rebuilt somewhere else. Millions will be given to fight child abuse. Foundations and programs will be set up to fight child abuse. Heck, if I'm Penn State, I make it my goal to have the best child abuse criminal justice program in the country (or child abuse psychology, etc) I can only think of two reasons why I wouldn't take the job if I was a well-established coach: 1) if had stronger loyalty elsewhere. If I'm Bob Stoops or Frank Beamer, I've been at my school so long I'm not leaving. If I'm Les Miles, the only place I'm leaving LSU for is Michigan. If I'm Mike Gundy, I'm staying at my alma mater. If I'm Chip Kelly, I'm staying with my NIKE hook-up. If I'm Bret Bielema, I don't leave my school to go coach at a rival school (unless I go to my alma mater, Iowa). But if I'm Nick Saban or Bobby Petrino, I got to Penn State in a heart beat. If I'm Gary Patterson or Chris Petersen, I'd go to Penn State in a heart-beat (but these two guys apparently love their situations and aren't leaving). 2) the other reason I wouldn't go to Penn State if I was a well-established coach is if Penn State can't pay me enough, and I don't know how much Penn State is willing and able to pay. But if they can't shell out the big bucks, they aren't going to get a big-time coach. so that leaves Saban and Petrino as the mostly likely big-time coaches that would go to Penn State that I can think of. You could add Meyer, but I think he's too much of a weasel to be the guy to restore honor to Penn State (and he bought a house in Columbus OH recently and used to coach there so he's probably eyeing Ohio State if anyone) if I'm Penn State, I go after all those coaches I listed above, but I pin my hopes mostly on getting Saban or Petrino, and I do my best sales pitch and be as persistent as I can. I also give them huge raises to come to Penn State. If Penn State can't land either of those two, then there are going to have to start looking at top-flight coordinators (Chavis, Malzahn, McElwain, Kirby Smart, Bud Foster, etc) or head coaches like Mark Richt, Mike Riley, Jeff Tedford, Skip Holtz, Gary Pinkel, Kyle Whittingham, Troy Calhoun, Kevin Sumlin, Mark Dantonio, etc
I think I understand the severity of this situation especially as I am a father. The thought of MY child in a situation like this is absolutely repulsive. That being said, I think in the case of the institution, time will heal the wounds. It's fresh now and the outcry is deafening. There will be a grieving period and a recovery period, but soon after that, the RIGHT man will bring Penn State back. Right or wrong, I feel like it will happen, and I think sooner than later. I agree that the building that housed all of this must be razed and a new facility put in it's place. I think the University should create some sort of outreach center in "Happy Valley" so that these issues are handled in a swift and true manner. Now, as everyone else has said, clean house and begin the process of rebuilding. EVERYONE must go. It's the only way to start right. I can only hope that those young men have the strength to get past this.
Penn state needs a hard nose fighter. They need a coach strong enough to battle the press. Saban would be a coach with the media control skills they need. They must not hire a weak coach.
I certainly can't see them tearing any buildings down. The program, and the athletic department......will be stripped from top to bottom. Penn State is going to suffer thru some lean years. The fanbase can live with that. Penn State needs to look back, and look ahead. What I want to see in the rebuilding process: Looking back......1. Rekindle the Penn State/Pitt rivalry. They stopped playing Pitt when they joined the Big 10 because of supposed scheduling conflicts. Bull****. Schedule Pitt again. Looking ahead....1. Hire a big name coach. Open the checkbook, and pay what it takes. 2. New Uniforms. Under Paterno, Penn State's trademark was the boring plain uniforms. Time to move on. Time to start over with a new look.
I assume if this PSU scandal happened the week leading up to the Bama game, you wouldn't see any threads on here.....
Not me. I hate the separate College Sports Forum anyway. This is as big as it gets in college football, and I'd hate to have to leave the Den to read and reply.
