No, all he did was prove that those teams were good enough to overcome the "outside forces". Perhaps you've noticed, but those "forces" have clearly stepped-up their game since that time.
The total number of penalties is an indication but what should be quantified is the number of holding penalties called on the teams. That would I believe put a spotlight on whether or not the gumps are shown favoritism. There is no way a college team can go through a game without a holding penalty especially against the d lines in the SEC. It is also too bad there is no way to really quantify blown calls in critical situations. Those like PP's interception or no calls. Those are as important as the statistics. The SEC office needs to have outside review of its officials and open reports after season's end. Other conferences do and get better quality officiating.
